I am close to purchasing a Magellan Meridian handheld GPS, I will mainly be using it in my small fishing boat and as a ice fishing locator, it is lightweight and floats, if anyone out there has this unit I would very much like to hear your pros and cons before I make my final choice Thanks, Stick
Stick,
The magellen is a good unit.
If the unit meets your requirements and price value points and needs - go for it.
If you haven't already looked, you might check out some of the garmin units.
Garmin has a bit of a monopoly on the gps market with good reason. They have a very good product at a competitive price, and they have a huge following of folks that write programs for it.
I suspect that you will also find the resale of the garmin is probably bettern than the magellen.
Take care

Have this unit and am glad I bought it.
It is very easy to operate. Accurate and
waterproof. It is just the GPS I needed,
plain and functional + you can connect it to your pc
When you buy a unit it does NOT come with a memory card.
You need this sd-card to load up maps from you pc (if you wish to)
You can buy these sd-cards at your local camera store, these are much cheaper then the magellan cards and exactly the same.

There are no cons to this unit all pros, buy it you wont be dissapointed, I love mine. From the boat to the woods and the atv it is like my right hand. Buy the topo software for your back roads maps it is really detailed even the most remote roads are on it also you will have to buy a memory chip depending on how much you want to upload. I think the chip for around 70 bucks will fit one state in the size of WI. or so.
