I am considering entering as a co-Angler in this event. I have never fished a tourney like this.
Give me your pros and cons...

this event could or will most like offer a huge amount of walleye fishing diversity. seasonal timing will be an intersting factor. typically about then, lake erie walleyes enter the river system and offer 8lb. or even larger average catches. vertical jigging, juls fishing....lol...i mean handining, and a variety of other methods will be utilized in the river. BUT, if the fish have come and gone because of the early spring that maybe will happen, the smart boys and girls will fish the main lake and mostly fish open water tactics such as cranks or spinners behind in-line off shore boards. pitching jigs on the main lake reefs also could factor in. slipbobbers?hmm...
the format offers the co-angler a great opportunity to fish with at least two different pro's on separate days and potentially 4 days if you are fortunate enough to make the two cuts. you fish as a team with the pro, but compete against the other co-anglers on the scoreboard. you could get quite a boat ride in this one or fish in the fast current of the mo town river. great opportunity! great challenge!
hope to see you there!

Cons: It's Spring Break for my kids and if I fished this RCL tournament my wife would skin me alive!
We're going to Mall of America in Minn. so there's no real decision to be made in her mind. "Let's see, shopping or fishing?.......hmmm.... where's the problem? You can fish all summer long!" Is there a Cabela's close by in Minneapolis area? Maybe I can spend my equivalent entry fee there. Sounds like a plan.

So Basicly I show up with my Life preserver, a bit of lunch and My Sunglasses? The Pro Provides all the equipment and techniques?
basically you are right. you surely don't need fishing related equipment except for warm, dry clothes. you can even leave the lifejacket at home unless you wear an out of the ordinary size. the boat will have them.
you need to come with an open mind. hoping to get lucky. being fit enough to withstand the elements and long days on the water. i always
say " this ain't no social event". lol
come on aboard!
see ya there...

I fished my first RCL(Also my first tourney) at Devils Lake last year and plan on going to Pierre this year. It is a great experience. Bring your clothes, sunglasses, lunch(you might have time to eat), and I brought my own lifejacket(I'm a short, fat guy). Don't forget to bring lots of questions. It was a good learning experience. They take care of the rest, and when I offered cash for gas, tackle, etc. they declined.

Supertroller,
There is a Cabela's south of the Twin Cities in Owatonna, MN. It is about 40 minutes south on I-35. Xplorer

What would the appx cost be to me. I have only been fishing for walleye for a couple of years. What if I make mistakes and hurt the pro's chances of winning, etc?
one time, on the last day of the '93 pwt tournament, i was in a good position to win with a good last day. the first fish, just minutes into the day was a perfect slot fish. and my partner immediately knocked it off with the net.... as i re-baited, silently, he sat back down afraid to breath. after a few minutes, he broke the silence and asked why i hadn't attempted to kill him. my answer was simple. " if killing you would bring back that fish, you wouldn't be ask'n." point is...don't worry about your experience level. the pro will do all he can to insure you do things right. we all make mistakes and the smart guys shrugge'em off and fish even harder.
for you, this is a good opportunity to learn. ( we proceeded to do things right the rest of day and took her to the bank)
hope to see ya there!

Marble Eyes,
Chances are you will run into some excellent "big fish" fishing. When timing is right, it can is fast and furious action. Fish over 10lbs will be common and most will be 22" and above. As already mentioned, there's a variety of techniques used by some great fisherman that will be trying their best to catch fish. You will have a great time.
The only downfall's are obvious: Cost and time away from home and work. If you have the opportunity to join us I would highly recommend you take it. The not so obiviuos downfall is it's very additive and causes you to think about fishing far more than is healthy.
Hope to see you in Detroit,
-Jeff

If you pick one to enter, this would probably be the best one of the season. The PWT in Port Clinton Ohio will also be a good one this year. The good thing about the river is the wind will not blow you off the water. Bring really good rain gear just in case its 40 and rains! You spend a long day on the water.
I fished the PWT at Trenton last year and it was a blast. The only thing that can dampen this RCL tournament would be a weeks worth of heavy rain just before it(Highly unlikely at the end of March).
You will see a lot of huge walleyes, maybe catch one for yourself. Last year I netted a 9.75 lber for my pro partner Bill Ortiz there. I seen one walleye over 13 lbs and lots of 11 and 12 lbers at the weigh-in.
Go for it and Good Luck

Let's see, I lived 7 lucky years on the Trenton Channel (and many many more on Detroit River side of Grosse Ile).
Pros:
-1st week of April is the best time to catch "Trophy" walleyes in the river
-The RCL is a really a prestigious blast
-You might get lucky and draw Juls for your pro
Cons:
-The weather at that time of year (dress warm and do it anyway!)
I did the Pt.Clinton RCL last year and finally cashed a $500 co-angler check weighing 41 lbs one day, and skunking the next (after a 60mph blow Day 2 cancel). Add in a few days of fantastic April pre-fishing with the pros and wow, it's a "must do" thing!!
Go for it Marble Eyes.
