View Full Version : Question for Legend Elite spin rod users

I am considering purchasing a couple of new 7 foot spinning rods this year (don't tell my wife!LOL). I have a couple 6 foot Loomis IMX's that I use for vertical jigging rivers and love 'em for their fast actions. But, I am not too interested in Loomis' 7 foot med/med-lt. spin rod selection (PR series, a little too moderate action for me) and I think St. Croix rods are the only ones that come close or surpass IMX or GLX (please don't attack me for that statement!). My question is, can anyone who uses the Legend Elite M and/or ML 7 foot rods tell me about their "fishability"? What I want to use the rod(s) for is casting balsa Raps, light cranks, throwing plastics on 1/8th to 3/8th oz. heads (thus my desire for both ML and M, maybe?), typical spin stuff for a 7 footer, on 8 lb. line mostly. I've got a couple of Daiwa Emblem X2500's which should hopefully match up nicely with the rods. I have only picked up and done the usual tip bending, rod shaking of the rods in Cabela's...can't load up the rods nor cast with them (at least I haven't asked to do that) so I cannot get a true feeling of the rods. Can any of you walleye fanatics help me out? Thanks, Jim S.

I have fished 2 Legend Elite spinning rods. The LS63MXF is the 6'3" medium power, extra-fast action. It is the best jigging rod I've ever used. I also have a LS70MLF, 7' medium-light power, fast action. This is also a fine jigging/rigging rod and easily throws #5 shap raps. These are both exceptional rods. There is nothing wrong with the G. Loomis GLX series, you won't go wrong with either rod brand. Good luck and good fishing.

Jim,

I have two of the Elite 7' MF rods. I love them and have never fished a better all around round for my needs. I use them for pitching cranks and jigs, lindy rigging, vertical jigging and even light bottom bouncers. The feel on these rods is tremendous and with a good quality line on your reel you can feel anything. I got mine at a place that let me take the rods out and get a feel for them. I went through a couple of other brands before I got to these and needed to go no further.

I don't think you will be unhappy with this series of rods. Quality and service are fantastic. I had to send my rod in because the insert fell out of the top guide and I had it back in no time and it didn't cost me a dime.

Jim,

I have a 7'0" Legend Elite Med. Lite fast action rod. I really like it. I've used it for casting cranks as light as 1/8 oz. on up to 3/8 oz jigs. I think it works best in the 1/8 oz to 1/4 oz range. I thought the 3/8 oz jig was just a bit heavy for this rod, even though it is rated for up to 3/8 oz baits. I find the rod to be very sensitive, making light bites much easier to detect. The rod is very light which makes it a joy to use all day. I'm now considering a 7'0" med action casting rod in the Legend Elite series. Hope this helps!

Would have to agree with Fred G. on this one. I have a 6 1/2ft. med. light and it is awesome with a 1/8oz. to 1/4oz. jig for casting.

eye guide,

Thanks for the reply. May I assume that because you have two of the med. 7 footers you feel they do the job (all-around walleye stuff, for lack of a better term) better than the ML action LE? That is what I think in that I would rarely go under 3/16th oz (as rated) with a 7 footer anyway and the M action would be much better at setting hooks with a lot of line out and in deeper water/more current. I can't really afford both 7 foot rods so I want to get the one that is the "best fit". Thanks again, Jim S.

I have the 7' ML that I use for live bait rigging on Mille Lacs. I've also used this rod for jig/minnow setup on Oahe and Leech. Works great. Plenty of backbone to hoist out the sow walleyes, plus sensitive enough to feel the lightest 'tap'..

I have never used in running cranks because of light action.
