I am looking at purchasing a power ice auger and I need some input. Has anyone used or seen someone use an Eskimo Shark Ice Auger? The Eskimo Shark has the 2.5 hp Emak chainsaw motor. The motor runs at 11,500rpm with a 30to1 transmission. That makes the auger turn at 383 rpm's. Should have alot of torque, I would think. I know the Jiffy's auger is 500rpm so it should throw less ice around. I spoke with the manufacturer and they said that they use bearings, machined gears, etc., when the other manufactures use bushings and pressed gears. They said Eskimo Augers are made tough enough that you can drill earth with the powerheads where you can't with the other brands. I did notice that they sold the Eskimos through construction supply dealers with earth augers. If you know of any pro or cons with these augers, I would appreciate knowing what you have to say.
Thanks

[font color=green size=3][b]I bought an Eskimo "Mako" this year with a 2hp tecmseh and the 8" ice auger. It's easy to use, and cuts fine, I'm looking forward to years of use.

We have been using them at McQuoids on Mille Lacs now for a couple years. Sharks with the 10" auger. They are great. Light weight, not very loud, dependable, and easy to start, and you don't have to mess with the primer all the time like you do with the Jiffy Legends.

Thats great to know. I went ahead and purchased one. The company, Ardisam, that manufactures these was very helpful everytime I called to ask a question. They never made me wait to talk to somebody, there was always someone available to answer my questions as soon as I called. They also told me that I can send my blades in and they will sharpen them for a reasonable fee of $7.00 which includes return shipping. Hope to take it to the lake this weekend and give it a try. I did read that you have to give it a little time for the clutch to break in.
