If I am trolling with a planer board, at 1.5MPH, how heavy a bottom bouncer do I need to get to 30ft deep? How much 14# test back of the boat? I was fishing a 1 once bottom bouncer with a spinner rig last weekend and I didn;t know if I was getting down to the bottom or not. I know that it is impossible to give me an exact answer, but just some ball park figures would be greatly appreciated!! I know you Erie guys have plenty of experience with this. Thank you very much.

Good question, the way I do it is to take the rod and off the back of the boat, let out line until I feel the bottom bouncer hitting the bottom. Then read the numbers on my line counter reel. I then let out a few feet less and connect to the board.

the line weight does not make a difference.if i am inj waater over 2o ft i like to use 2 oz. bouncers. you don't have to let as much line out.I like to let the bouncer hit the bottom the wait about thirty seconds then let the line out again to hit the bottom.then set in rod holder or put on a planner board. I use bouncers alot on the il river and at erie. if you have more questions email me at bobdebkara@yahoo.com good fishing bob
