Recall a few previous posts and now am seeing some jigs in Cabellas called Hare or Hair jigs. What is the deal with the hair jig? Do they stay more bouyant cast after cast? I like to try/buy them all but if I can get a little info before, I figure it's a bonus.

I assume you are talking about HAIR jigs, not HARE jigs. There are some jigs tied now with bunny hair strips , but those are more for bass. Hair jigs are simply jigs tied with natural or synthetic hair of some form. They do tend to fall slower and often times you don't need live bait or plastics when using them. I would suggest buying a few 1/4 ouncers and giving them a try when you are catching fish on "traditional" jigs and see how they work for you.

Hare jigs are great for any species. Rabbit hair has a great quality underwater and even without physical movement from the angler it "breathes". The fine fibers wave back and forth. The rabbit fur can be palmered around the shank and used as a strip "trailer".
Hair jigs are typically a stiffer longer hair. Deer hair being the most common. Deer tail hair for the most part. Also an excellent dressing for jigs. It does not have the same "live" action that rabbit hair does however.
I tie Hare jigs for lots of fish. Crappies love em. Walleye will take them. Bass, Pike. I even tie Hare jigs for Lake Trout in the winter. On my last trip my Hare jigs out produced my old go-to Laker bait.
Because of the types of hair used on Hair jigs, they do add a bit of bouancy to the jig and they do not soak up water. Hare jigs really hold the water as you pull them out of the water. They do affect the casting weight of the jig. But when they are in the water, I don't really notice a change in weight.
Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

I buy ungarnished jigs and add marabou feathers. With marabou, the jig stays short yet the feather flares out, breathes and moves at the slightest movement. Actually, the marabout is never motionless. I still have some "Evans" jigs with marabou feathers that I bought 40 years ago for less than 10 cents each. These jigs also had very sharp fine wire hooks that would straighten out with 8 lb Stren mono. I say 8 lb Stren because it's diametre is about equivalent to 10 lb Trilene.

I tie hair jigs with bucktail from deer I tag in the fall. They are great for bass, never tried them for walleye. They have a great action in the water, like a minnow swimming.
