View Full Version : river walleye
What bait and presentation would you recommend when going for river walleyes from land? I fish the Delaware river in Easton PA. It has a swift current and a lot of rocks.

start with a jig and minnow use the heavist jig you can get away with, your going to snag up and there is not much you can do about it but if it were me it would be a jig and minnie or live bait to start.

3-way with the pyramid shaped heavy sinker 1 to 3 oz. depending on current speed, tip with crawler or minnow. That would be an anchored rod.--- If it's legal for two rods there, I would pitch heavy jigs with that....Paul
how do you do a 3 way pyramid shape rig?

I would go with the 3 way also. Tie main line to one of the loops on the 3 way swivel. Tie pyramid sinker to 8" piece of mono a couple of pounds lighter than the main line, tied to the next loop of the 3 way. The last loop gets the bait on some type of snell. When the sinker gets caught it can be broke off with out losing the whole rig. Sinker weight should be heavy enough to hold bottom but will drift down current when lifted.
I would suggest using the Phelps Wobbler Floater. You can either troll, or just anchor, and drop it to the bottom with anywhere from a three to six foot leader with an egg sinker. It will work with the hook upright and wobble back and forth and shake the bait to attract the fish. It has a hook similar to a circle hook, so, you don't have to set too hard, just pull up and reel. Of course I am partial to this, but, I have used it on the Rainy River in Mn many times and it worked real well. It is a great way to go in the Red Wing area when you can also be casting a jig. Good luck to you.
