View Full Version : Battery Plug in????
I'm installing a trolling motor plug-in on by 1650V Rebel. The guy at the marina suggested a battery plug in as well. Since I don't have an onboard charger, he said I should do this so I don't have to remove my battery all of the time. It will probably be tough to get to also.
I was wondering if any charger could be modified/adapted to plug into this outlet? I don't want the convienence of a plug in if I have to buy a $250.00 charger. Anyone have any ideas what to do or if this will work?
Thanks,

Marinco has plugs to do that. I assume the plug-in you are installing is for the plug to the trolling motor that the TM will plug in to, don't say that 3 times in a row (LOL)! If this is the case you can pick up a Marinco plug, from, say, Cabela's and wire it with stubs (short sections of 4 or 6 gauge wire). Leave the tag end stripped of insulation for about 1/2". At days end, remove the trolling motor plug and plug in the Marinco. Take your leads from the charger, clamp them to the stubs of the Marinco and charge your battery(ies). Nice, clean setup and your battery stays on board!

My cureent setup is just that...I have a "plug in" trolling motor and the same kind of plug is on the bow to let me plug in a battery charger that I modified the cables...took of the clamps and put on the twist lock plug...works fine
Fred,
What kind of battery charger do you use? Also, is the battery charger outlet the same as the trolling motor outlet? You just interchange them when you want to troll or charge? If you don't mind, please expand a little on this because I am a novice and want to make sure I have the correct setup.

What do you have for a battery charger?
If you have a "battery plug-in", then it has to go to something.
Battery charger inlets, by Marinco work nice but, you do have to have the battery charger that stays in the boat and is hooked to the batteries at all times.
Not to say there aren't other ways to charge your batteries...but no plug-in needed (except troll motor plug) on the other variations.
Or, did I misunderstand?
T-Mac,
I think we are misunderstanding each other. I wanted to know if I could hook my battery up to an outlet. Then run a charger to the boat when needed and just plug it in? Not sure how difficult it will be to access the battery once it is in, so I would like to make things run smoothly. Maybe hooking the charger straigt to the battery every time will work fine, but just thought I would check with the experts on this.

Piece of cake.
You just get another plug...like the one that plugs into your troll motor socket on the boat. Plug it into that troll motor plug-in , hook your battery charger to the wires on the plug (black neg and red positive) and you are charging your battery back thru your troll motor plug.
