I'm new to the Minneapolis area and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction for some good shore fishing opportunities; the closer to the Univeristy the better. I don't need your hot spots, just some general ideas would be great.

Well, you can check by the Ford Dam in Hidden Falls Park. I have spent lots of time fishing from shore there when I was a student. You can catch smallies, walleye, sauger, catfish, and sheephead.
Another spot that isn't terribly far away is Calhoun. I have caught large bass wading from shore.
