View Full Version : Rod holders for seat base

There used to be a really good rod holder for the seat base. I cannot recall the name, but it held 8 or 10 rods. The rods were supported when the rod holder was carried.
But I do not think that that rod holder is available anymore. What do most of you use? I want to keep my trolling rods easily together when storing and trasporting, and I would like the rod holder to fit in a seat base. I know that Cabella's has one -- is this what most of you use?
Thanks.

Rick-
You mean like this one?

Perchjerker pointed out the equivalent of the rod wrangler.
If you want to get one that is already made, check out Cabela's.
They have a similar rod holder for about $50.
Take care

The Rod Wrangler is still available. I will do some research when I go home for lunch and see if I can find the new contact information and post it.
I bought one recently for use with my new Lund. They make the Rod Wrangler with the new plug and pull seat bases and it works great. :) Most of the others I've seen aren't of the same quality, they don't have as many options for use with all the different seat bases, and they don't provide security for the rods as well as the Rod Wrangler.

The best one on the market is made by FTC company, 6,8,10,or 12 rods works awesome would be lost without it.

I certainly like my Rod Wrangler better due to the fact that it uses the locking Berkley rod holders on the top end.. The FTC certainly looks like it would work, but I wouldn't trade!!!

The contact information currently for Messenger Boat Accessories, maker of the Rod Wrangler is 308-233-0712, ask for Steve Messenger. I spoke with Steve this morning, he thanked me for contacting him about your interest, and said any who are interested in product information or purchasing can give him a call. Messenger Boat Accessories has plans for a new website that are in progress, but until then use the phone number above.
Great product:)

Thats good to hear. I think the design is way better than that other one. I like the fact there is a handle on it and you can carry your rods to and from the boat like a piece of luggage. Cant to that with that other one that I can see. Also looks like by the angle of the rod holders that the tips could get all tangled up expecially if you had line on them from them bouncing around.

I have been fishing with the FTC holder now for two years, It's works great when your pulling plugs, you take it and stick it up in the bow, you can move it anywhere you want, I'm also using his workstation, Ron is his name by the way, a long time fisherman that makes nothing but quality, the workstation holds two of my ram mounts that v my rounds around the main outboard, and the other two rods with boards go straigth out from the back gunnel it makes a slick four rod trolling set up, I bought mine at Scheels in Sioux Falls SD.
I can blast down the Res. @ 50mph with out any problems.

The angle of the rod holders hold the rod straight up and down, with the weight of the reel pulling out the only way to hold the rods straight up and down is to angle the top of the rod holder in.

I see.
Still seems like could bounce around a lot with no other support.
So how do you carry it to your truck with all the rods in it?

Your rods are allready in the boat locked in the locker, when your ready to use them you pull them out of the locker and stand them in the ready posistion, as far as thinking they will bounce around you are more than welcome to go fishing with me to see for yourself. I have fished in every condition from 6ft rollers to glass at 53mph with out a hitch, i've been fishing for 25years and this is a time and space saver in the boat.

One more side note, after the boat show in SF SD were Gary Roach was speaking, Gary was so impressed with the holders that he personally helped Ron establish a rather large account in MN, I think they call them Fleet and Farm stores. The website he has really does not do the man justice for what he makes.

If you say they dont bounce around, I will take your word for it. It just look like it would in the pics.
Im sure its a good setup.
For me, taking the rods out and storing in a locker wont work as I dont have any rod lockers LOL.
Thats why I like a design that allows me to take them out and carry them in the house or hotel room like a suitcase, all in one compact unit.
