I'm thinking of buying one of these units for the back of my boat. Cabelas has them at only 100 bucks apart so basically I'm wondering if I should go with the tried and true X15 or try the color X18. The differences I see are the X15 has a larger screen-more pixels-more power.I've only seen the color units in simulated mode at shows.Do they work as well in the real world of sunshine? Thanks for any info.

Am using both units on my boat and think the X-18 is better in regards to the color sonar. The different colors help to differentiate the bottom content, and think I have learned to distinquish the difference between a walleye and a sucker (sucker is a bit more intense).
But don't quote me on that! :-)

Question for ya Rick,
My new boat will have an x-18 on it. I have a heck of a time telling the different bottom transitions with my current non color graph.
Will I be able to tell when I go from mud to gravel easier?
