Can anyone suggest a good method to fish for Walleye in the Columbia River from the shore? I don't have access to a boat, so I fish
from the shore. So are there any rigs, lures etc, that will work
near the shoreline?
Thanks,
Mark

What strech are you talking about? Also join one of the walleye clubs lots of times I and others fish alone and would throw you in a boat. Til a couple days before tournaments we are all friends...

I'm fishing the Columbia up around Wenatchee.
I see a lot of people in boats out in deep
water fishing for walleye, but I am more
interested in if there are any ways to fish
for them from shore.
Since I can't really jig, do I just throw
some bait out with a heavy sinker?
Thanks,
Mark

Why didn't I think of that? What size net works best,
and what do I tell the WDFW guy when he drops by?

Go up river to where the Chelan river hits the columbia you can fish from shore at the park right by ther on the west side of the river. Try night and try cranks. Time before last I was there everybody was excited because night before somebody got a 14 pounder. I have never fished that strech of the river. If you can get close the the dams on the down river side I would also try some cranks there. If worse comes to worse get a jig mold and "sacrifice" some jigs to learn the bottom strucure. Lastly jig and bobber. Make light jigs with slightly larger hooks. I have some 1/8 and 1/4 ounce jigs on 2/0 hooks. With slip knot it is hit and miss. If you are getting too many snags you can also go to smaller hooks with smaller jigs. Talk to some people in boats bleow the dams for info if you can. I would go to the spots where tributaties come into the columibis 1st and below the dams second. Hope this helps... wa_walleye

You can also fish spoons and jigs with grub tails in the currant type areas (below the dam or behind wing dam) drift fish them just like you would for stealhead. the guys that fish for pike minnows catch alot of walleyes and well usually give you some good advise as long as you let them know you are after walleye (I have even traded the pike I catch for walleye info.

Thanks, it sounds like you have had some experience with fishing
from the bank. About all I catch are the pike minnows, usually
with spoons. Have you had any luck getting walleye in the Columbia?
Did you mean to drift fish with spoons? I don't have any experience with steelheading, so I am not sure how they fish for them. I have
tried to cast and slowly retrieve some old salt water jigs I had, but the bottom is so rocky I typically lose them after two or three casts. I assume I need to get fairly far out from shore, as I have heard that walleye like the deep spots?

Thanks for the info. I know the park you are talking about. Is
the water fairly deep up there? How late at night is the best time to fish?
I have sacrificed a number of jigs already, but I haven't tried
a jig and bobber. What kind of jig do you recommend.

Brian-
Man, that is some of the clearest water I ever tried to fish, coming out of Chelan. :) That little stretch from the dam to the Columbia was like Gin, when I tried it. (12-15 years ago).

It's nice to see some Washington walleye guys on the board. I am originaly from the land of 10,000 lakes and I just bought a new boat and am looking into getting into Washington walleye fishing. Are there are lot of us out here? I live over in the Everett area and and would love some info on how to get started. Any tips advice or comments would be great. I have been out here for 12 years and have only fished walleyes twice with a guide with little success. I am really into withdrawl. My only fix is 10 days on the ice at christmas and 5 or six days in July back in Minnesota. This board has a been a great help especially when it cam to buying my first boat. Thanks all!!

As I understand they are actually going to open the stretch from the dam to the columbia for the first time in like 4 years this year for spiny ray only. I am keeping my eyes open. CFwalleye may have a link or something because I think I heard it through him. FYI, tell Jerry it is warm year like when he won Potholes so I am just going to follow him. The picture of the 18 pounder was Lonnie my sometimes partner that fished Camas Tourney with Jerry last year. He was planning on buying this fall but after a day with Jerry he went and got his pro v about two months later. Let us know when you sneak this way again, Brian

NW,
Walleye675 and myself both live in Lake Stevens. Email me we can go to McDonalds and talk about some walleye fishing. Some of us think we should have a fish out just so the WC members of washington can meet... Are ther lots of us out here? No, but once you get to know a few we are pretty nice group and know who each other are. Grab the boat go to potholes this weekend you will meet about 1/3 of the washinton tournament guys at the launches. Just start asking questions. Most of use will help you get started. You would do better to ask more queastions after the tourney 10 days from now. Or just get on the water and watch while draggin a line will teach you what people are doing too. FYI, check out the ten pound club put your time in you are basically assured a trophy fish. Anyways boss coming this way again, wa_walleye
