I'll be mounting my new 104 this weekend. What's everyone using to attach this unit to the dash. I'm concerned about additional weight and bulkiness.

I saw a picture of Keith K's boat on the PWT (Winneconne) leaderboard. Looked like he had two of those by his console. Looked like they were on Ram Mounts. Holy cow!

Dennis,

After using both the Ram and Johnnie Ray mounts, if it will fit with the base, I'd urge you to go with the Johnnie Ray.

My Genetrons bounce all over with Ram and always come loose, the Johnnie Ray is rock solid.

Good luck,

Dennis,
I mounted mine with the Larger Ram Electronics mount. I used a larger ram style base called a 107B it can be found on their website. Might be a hard item to locate in stock but I am sure anyone who sells RAM can get you one. My unit is rock solid with this mount.

I used 2 of the regular rams mounts and cut the bases that hold the head unit in half so it has 2 balls on the unit and 2 on the dash. I was in rough water and it work very good..

With all due respect, remember if the mount is too solid, any shock is going directly into the electronics.

Ram all the way.

I also understand that shock plays a big role, but the RAM I am currently using for their "larger" units, has the unit swinging like a windchime when running rough water, it is all over the place.

I've watched both units and all I can say is that I have much more confidence in the JR than the RAM. If the unit is going to hit something that hard, I'm hoping that I make it through. I've run some rough water and had some pretty abusive runs, my bow unit has held up like a champ with the JR.

Did see that RAM came out with a mount similar to the JR with an absorber, I'm looking into that one also.

Thanks,

I went with the Johnny Ray with my 104 but I also run a tiller. Might have more space to work with.

The ram mount with the shock absorb, are they similar to the JR? I just installed my 104 using a JR, it still moves abit, but until I can get some feed back on the Shock absorb, I am going with the JR.
