I'm going to be tying harnesses tonight, seeing as the bite is moving to harnesses, whats your go to harnesses configuration? I'll be trying them on the Bay of Quinte for huge post spawn suspended females. Are willow blades prefered and what sizes and colors to start with? I'll be running dipseys and spoons also.I assume you run a little faster than normal harness speeds under 1 mph.

My two best are a perch/firetiger blade with a perch pattern on the beads(from top to bottom: three green, one black, two yellow) and size 3 hammered copper colorado blade with all white, yellow, or green faceted beads. Off of dipseys on Erie @ 1.5-1.7 MPH usually. Bouncers too. The RCL guys were running around 1 - 1.4 mph, using bags to take the wave surge out when it was rough. Blades went from 4s - 7s depending on the day, mostly Colorados. Holographics, Baitfish, reds were more important than I ever remember, diamond cut gold, chartruse, pink and blue were the colors I heard most. Oh yea purple with cloud cover (that was a new one on me).
Hook types and configurations were quite varied. Most were using 5' - 6' harnesses on 10 - 15 pound test mono, with removable blade clevices. Most used in line weights or bead chain sinkers right ahead of the harness, some went with snap wts. 25 - 30 ahead.
Rattle beads were thought to be important by some. Some even used the high priced colored hooks.

I wish someone could tell me why the fish want harnesses so bad this year.

The harness bonanza will come to a screeching hault when the sheephead get fired up (which is right around the corner).

Good luck and good fishing.

What size beads do you use? When you mean green do you mean emerald green or chartreuse? Thanks alot for the help

I'm surprised there is no mention of leadcore with the RCL guys. I prefer my harnesses off of core because of slower drops and rises when doing s- turns, seems to me its a more natural presentation, also use circle hooks for light biters. This along with segmented core and in-line brds is my favorite method. At this time, what is the hot depth to be at for suspended fish?

Size 6 faceted. They're the transparent yellowish green that some people call chartreuse. Closest that I could find to the color of the blades in a faceted bead.

During mayfly time -- small ruby red beads, #3 Colorado hammered gold blade; not during mayfly time -- migger ruby red beads, #3 or 4 hammered gold or pro scale firetigher blades.
