What techniques would you use for catching Walleyes in shallow water that has a significant weed growth. Early in the year the lake that I fish, the walleyes come to the end to spawn. The water depth is anywhere between 3-10' with alot of weeds. Any advise on how to hook these eyes would be appreciated.

Cast crankbaits, slipfloats, pitch jigs, cast spinnerbaits, Rattle traps work well for ripping through weeds. If the weeds only come up four or five feet in ten feet of water, cast something like a suspending husky jerk that will occasionally make contact with the weed tops.

I agree with colby and toast. Here's another technique that works up here. Take a bullet sinker (the skinny kind like bass fisherman use) and put it about 4 ft. ahead of a spin and glow. Rig it the same as you bottom bounce (the spin and glow) with a snell system and troll it behind. Very weedless and effective. Cast it a shot distance behind the boat to stay above the weeds and let line out to get deeper. Sounds simple and works great.

Theres a response only a mother would love. I like roadrunner heads, bare with a fathead. It seems to get tjru the weeds with less hang than a regular ball head or wobble jig head. mO

I deal with this on a few of my area honeyholes, pitch a timber jig,as if you were bassin, I use this setup every time I hit these lakes and I usually do well, The rest of the guys are usually working the weed edges with live bait. They think I'm in there bassin "I'm not" give it a try!

Try using a drop-shot rig.I use a lindy no-snag sinker and a weedless hook.Throw on a minnow-work them weeds no problem.Good luck-Lou in Alex.
snell a #6 or #8 and run as small a slpit shot as you can get away with about 18" up, leeches or crawler bits as well as the minnow of your choice.

I would bow mount along and pitch jigs into the openings. And if you find any rocks piles or structure in or along it, maybe try to slip bobber these if they are on the downwind end of things.:-)

Those "idiot" bait bass lures sure find and take walleye on any edges. Get what you have coming cranking and reposition the boat for bait as they wise up. These weed walleyes really clog up the livewell drains with half digested bluegill. Like Kolby work em, find them, and catch them.

Myself I would try long lining floating raps and prefer this at dusk.
