I would suggest Trojan batteries. There's quite a few users that frequent this board that have had great luck with them. Including myself. I would also add that the Interstate deepcycle grp 31's are not a good choice, I went through many before switching to Trojans.

Do a search here on "optima"...the thread had some good advice...

Also, at www.nitroowners.com there was a good discussion...

And, finally...visit www.nsbass.com for some fun fishing quizzes and games...also we're proud of our club web site...

If you do an OPTIMA search here on WC my name will pop up. My Optima's were great last year. I never ran out of power and they recharge unbelievably fast. An example- Last fall on Lake Sakakawea (on a calm day- rare!) I rigged and jigged through an eight hour fishing day using the trolling motor. When I got home I plugged in my charger and checked it twenty minutes later- 3 green lights! Fast recharge is just as important for cranking batteries- when you are running your pumps, radio, electronics gear, etc., you need a battery that can sustain the load even if you are using your outboard infrequently. Optima's also hold their charge extremely well. No worries on plugging in the charger a couple of times in the winter months for example.

Optima's are lightweight, small, non-spillable, 100% maintenance free, and feature an extended service life. They will not outgas when charging and their terminals don't corrode. Optima's are extremely rugged. Read the testimonials from the offshore racers at http://www.optimabatteries.com/ Walleye boaters don't torture batteries like that but remember that vibration is the #1 killer of batteries other than neglect. Optima's are an excellent choice if battery maintenance is a problem due to location or other factors. Simply put, just recharge them after every use and they will last far longer than conventional batteries. You pay more for an Optima battery but in my opinion they are worth the money. Cabela's has the cranking battery for $150 and the deep cycles for $170. Send me an e-mail if you have any questions. Good Luck, JC
