I have a good friend who has purchased a cottage on the St. Mary's River. I am not sure if it is on Lake George or Lake Nicolet. I have been invited up to go fishing.

I was wondering if this was a good place to go fishing for walleye's? My friend said he knows people who catch walleyes there and other fish. I would like to hear if others like to fish this area too.

Any help would be great.

Thanks, Steve

Fishing the St Marys system can be great as well as very frustrating. I have found that it seems to be very temperature dependent. Seems like once the warmer water gets to the area in late July through September, the fishing is much more consistent than earlier in the year. This is an opinion from someone who only fishes up there a few times per year, though.

Typically fish hold on the channel edges and a bunch of folks pull bottom bouncers with spinners along the edges. There is honestly too much water to say fish are in a specific spot - have caught them from the locks all the way through Raber Bay. There is a guy who regularly posts info on the system on www.greatmich.com - unfortunately, you have to weed through all the crud reports as well.

Good luck with your fishing, it is a beautiful area to fish.

River fishery great........multi species to boot.
As mentioned by some previous post:could be seasonal and ,of course, quite localized or specialized.
I spend a about thirty days from mid August to mid September for walleye, salmon, and perch.
There's a Glen Trumble who posts on local fishing in thae Sault area.
