are they worth it?? I just bought some for my dipseys and wonder if they are any good. What is their main purpose? I assume to take some of the pull out when a fish hits to prevent pulling out of their mouth???

Are snubbers worth it??You bet they are....Without them you WILL loose tackle. And possibly even break rods.
If you are running spiderwire of any good spectra fiber line (which you should be) on your dipsy rods you have virtually zero stretch to the diver. If a fish hits hard you will definatlay bust something. There is simply to much stress in that nano second. You can get away with it with walleyes but not with salmon and trout.
With a snubber you cushion the impact of that strike. The only drawback to snubbers is that you must (in my opinion) fight a fish a little harder/faster.If you give them any slack or loose line at all they can stretch the snubber and shake the hooks in no time. You will loose some fish to the snubbber effect. But not as many as you would loose without them.
Use that snubber behind your dipsy and about six feet of good twenty to thirty pound leader and you wont be sorry you bought them. They are worth every penny!!.I wont run big divers without them...FISH HARD...Wahoo..

I'll second the snubber. If you've ever seen a hit on a dipsy from a salmon it is just a very violent strike.I read a post on a great lakes site that said a salmon strike is like standing on a highway and hooking a semi traveling at 70mph.Better have your drag set right the first time or say good bye to your tackle or rod.Fish on!!!

Hi,
The snubbers are a must and I use Clear ones.I also use black or clear Dipsys and jets.If you use Roberts holders Hook a loop of line from your reel around the holder. We have had 2 holders break off using dipsys.
May I be fishing somewhere Tomorrow

Now let me get this straight,
you guys are using the snubbers behind the dipseys and not in front of them? We got probably 10 of our 14 hook ups on dipseys without them and did ok but I like the safety factor you guys talk about.

Hi Brian,
I run them behind with a 6'leader.I have been using a Slide Diver some and using a snubber with a 6' leader and running the line out thu the Diver 50 ft before locking it down and sending it out.How ever when I put a rigger down on that side out 50ft I use a Dipsy.

I went without snubbers for a long time with small divers and very light drag settings. But now I run mainly big divers and ALL spectra fiber lines with them so no more...Like I said.Cheap insurance against breaking a rod~rod holder~loosing tackle, destroying a reel etc..On ten pound steelies maybe you can get away with it~On twenty five pound (lake mich.) kings ~NO way!..You will loose tackle!
And yes I run them behind my divers but I geuss you can run them above them as well. Not sure why you would though. They are made to lessen the impact mainly at the lure connection..Wahoo
I do not use them at all for walleye. For salmon I always run them behind a fireline or wire diver. It is near impossible to get the diver to trip if you place them in front of the diver. I also recommend the clear snubbers. I like the ones from Wolverine, the makers of Silver Streak. There are others out there also.
I do not run them for salmon on a mono diver or a slide diver. I usually run a 40' mono past the power pro on my slide divers. I assume that has the strech I need. If you run a mono diver there is already enough stretch in my opinion.

QUESTION?? why a clear one? in front of the snupper are a multitude of colored dipsys .just though I"D ask /thanks
The main reason for the clear ones is the fact that the UV ray don't deteriorate them. The rubber snubbers rot in the sun. The silicon snubbers last much much longer.

It is more a function of the material they are made of than the color. The original colored dispey snubbers will break down pretty quickly (1 year) from UV light - get cracks in the rubber, etc. and fail at the worst time. The "clear" ones from Amish Outfitters www.amishoutfitters.com are made of UV resistant material and will last for several years.
