Have been a fireline user the last couple of years. Fairly satisfied jigging with it. Have concerns with the fraying of the line. Saw some mention of power pro line recently, never used it. How does it compare with firelines sensitivity and strenght? Is it as thin. Does it come in a hi-vis? Any problems fraying. I like fireline but always looking for something better. Thank you for your thoughts.

I have fished both PP and fireline and I believe there are two distinct differences. First PP is a limperline that does not seem as stiff as fireline and the second difference is the PP is a smaller diameter. I like the castability of PP very well, I have not trolled this line though so cannot comment on that.
PP used to be made in a high vis PINK color and I really love that line for jigging, that color is tough to find and I don't know if it is still made.

At any rate I really have liked power pro and would also like to hear input on how it works for trolling, I am assuming that it will work fine.

I agree with youngeye it is more supple so it is easier to cast. I have used it since it fist came out for trolling, casting, jigging I think it works great for it all. It is very strong, yes it can be broke but you better be holding on. Have never had much trouble of the line fraying, at least not like fireline. No memory to the line, you can unwind it off of the reel spool and use the other end it seems to last longer. Just what I have seen using it.

Power Pro will last at least 5 times longer than Fireline. While it is a little softer than Fireline, it is nowhere near as limp as Spiderwire. On Erie it is recognized as the premiere superbraid for trolling, and the 30/8 or 50/12 are what I always recommend for Dipsys. It is a Spectra fiber line so there is no rot, and the micro-dyneema lines (Fireline) fray much worse. The 4 pick weave make it the roundest superbraid I can find.

Simply put, it's good stuff. Well worth a try.

you can get pp in hi-viz yellow from bps or cabelas. One of them has it, the other doesnt. Dont remember which.

p.s. how can you guys even admit that you used that fireline crap? i would rather not fish than use that!

Waz, Between this site and Lake-Link, I have seen at least 100 testimonials that thought very highly of Power Pro and I can recall one person saying that it had too much memory and spooled off his spinning real. Power Pro is 100% waterproof, has zero memory and near zero stretch and is excellant for almost all fishing applications. I swear this one negative post I read about Power Pro was a stock holder in Stren or Berkely or something! I have been using it for three years now on all my trolling rods. I have turned several muskie fishermen onto it as well. I do not know of anyone who has gone back to their "old favorite"

It is just a matter of time before this premier line becomes a household word. It is amazing on it's popularity already in light of not being from one of the "Big 3" manufacturers of fishing line.

All I can say is try a spool and you will be converted as well.

Everybody told you how good it is, and you can believe them, i have been using it since it came out, and as far as i am concerned, it is the best that i have used. it does come in a high visability yellow now too. i have it ordered for the shop and it should be in any day now. i did use the yellow last year and it is easy to see. i have the same line on my musky reels that i put on the first year that it came out, and it is still as strong and as limp as it was then. the color has faded some, but thats all.i check it all the time for frays and bad spots, but none so far. one thing about using it, be sure to back the drag off. good luck and good fishin.

I confess to being a fireline user. It's good to know if something better is out there but, I've let the fish tell me it's
time to change gear when they break something. I've used fireline on my six dipsey rods for years without losing a fish due to the fireline breaking. The knots have always held. I use the 30' test and have caught many Kings over 25' and some over 30'. I'm glad to see that something better is out there. I'll have to look into it. Fireline may not be the best but, from my usage it beats most of what's out there for dipsey diver fishing.

I was wondering if 10/2 will be too light for pulling boards? If 10# mono works then this stuff should be good to go, right? Any input from some die hard trollers would be great!

I use power pro for trolling and I would not use 10/2. The diameter is so small that you will have great trouble getting the clips to hold. I use 20/6 and even this is so small that I sometimes have to double wrap. I also like the heavier line because the 20# saves me crankbaits. It takes a lot to break it.

Good stuff, I prefer it over Fireline now. Casts very well on a spinning rod. Just as sensitive as Fireline and quieter through the guides with less fraying. You wont be disappointed. I have absolutely no connection with this company..just a satisfied customer.

Someone mentioned earlier that 10/2 PP might poses a problem when pulling boards. I agree it may be a problem with the "old" releases made by off-shore, but 10/2 should work just fine with the new snapper releases. Just a thought.

I'd be interested in hearing from more of the pro's, as at the PWT championships last year I'd bet that over 90% of them were using Fireline to jig with?

Tim,
I think your post has some merit but I also wonder if the reason so many pros were jigging fireline was because they are sponsered by berkely. I to fish fireline some and like it for jigging, if I were getting fireline free I to would use it too. I would like to hear how many pro's are sponsored by power pro vs. berkely.

Thanks,

I have been a user of Fireline since it came out and have had good results (albeit the fraying) for all applications except slip bobbering, it seemed to want to hangup on the bobber in lighter presentations. Has anyone used the PowerPro for this application with success?
That being said I did pick up a spool of Power Pro this winter after seeing the many positive responses about it on this board and will be giving it a try for light longline trolling and lindy rigging/jigging.
How is it for ice fishing (out in the elements below freezing)?
I have had issues with the fireline freezing while laker fishing in canada and wondering if the powerpro would not do this due to different thread design than the fireline (braided micro-dyneema)
Thanks for any input. Xplorer

i'm looking at the Cabela's tackle shop 2002 catalog. its listed on page 52. If you dont have this particular catalog, call them at 1 800 237 444.
also you can order off the 'net from http://www.digitaldagger.com

ebay has some occasionally as well.
