WE CONTINUE TO GET E-MAILS INQUIRIES REGARDING A POST ENTITLED "BEST SONAR& GPS" FOR 2002. WE DID RESPOND TO SOME QUESTIONS ASKED IN THIS POST"RESPONSE NO. 12" AND SINCE WE ARE STILL GETTING QUESTIONS WE WILL REPEAT OUR ANSWER TO THE QUESTION REGARDING VERTICAL PIXEL/ DOTS PER LINEAR INCH THAT DETERMINES RESOLUTION.THE TOTAL VERTICAL COUNT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RESOLUTION. S.F. IN HIS PREVIOUS POST IS CORRECT IN THE FACT THAT IT IS THE COUNT PER VERTICAL LINEAR INCH THAT DETERMINES RESOLUTION. THE HORIZONTAL COUNT IS NOTHING BUT A HISTORICAL RECORD OF THE INITIAL VERTICAL LINE THAT APPEARS ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE SCREEN AND THEN "PARADES" RIGHT TO LEFT ACROSS THE SCREEN. THE MORE HORIZONTAL PIXELS/DOTS YOU HAVE THE LONGER YOU WILL BE ABLE TO VIEW THE HISTORY. THERE IS NO NEW INFOMATION THAT IS "PRINTED" ON THIS PORTION OF THE SCREEN. THE ONLY NEW INFORMATION IS ON THAT SINGLE VERTICAL LINE THAT IS "PRINTED" ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE SCREEN. ONE SHOULD ALSO REMEMBER THAT ALL THE INFORMATION THAT IS "PRINTED " ON THAT SINGLE VERTICAL LINE IS CONDENSED FROM A THREE DIMENSIONAL WORLD THAT THE TRANSDUCER "SEES" AND IS PUT ON A TWO DIMENSIONAL VERTICAL LINE. FOR THE CONSUMER THE VERTICAL LINE COUNT PER LINEAR INCH IS THE ONLY THING THAT YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED WITH WHEN IT COMES TO RESOLUTION ON A FLAT SCREEN FISHFINDER. IF THE MANUFACTURER IS RELUCTANT TO TELL YOU THIS FIGURE AND ONLY WANTS TO TELL YOU THE TOTAL VERTICAL COUNT BE CAREFULL!!! IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GET THE VERTICAL PER LINEAR INCH COUNT ON YOUR OWN ,WHICH YOU SHOULD DO, SIMPLY TAKE THE TOTAL COUNT AND CAREFULLY MEASURE THE ACTUAL SCREEN VERTICALLY AND DO THE DIVISION TO GET THE VERTICAL COUNT PER LINEAR INCH. WHEN YOU ARE FISHING FOR A BOTTOM FEEDING FISH LIKE A WALLEYE IT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPERATIVE THAT YOU GET THE HIGHEST VERTICAL PER LINEAR INCH COUNT THAT YOU CAN AFFORD!!! I THINK ONE PREVIOUS POST STATED THAT IT IS NOT TO HARD TO SPEND 20,30,40, THOUSAND ON A GOOD WALLEYE BOAT AND THAT YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TO GET THE REAL FACTS ON YOUR FISHFINDER BEFORE YOU PURCHASE. Dick, stop yelling at us, use of CAPITALS IS YELLING IN INTERNET WORLD, plus it is hard to read,,,,thought you should know, maybe you are angry with us??? LOL
don't worry, dick loves us all and is not angry in the least bit. he wouldn't be trying to help us if he were. but he has let us know in past posts he has made, that he has eye sight trouble and needs to do this in capitals. he even would prefer any answers to his posts in capitals as well.

OK, so what is the total vertical count of a Genetron? Not pixels per vertical inch, but the total pixels?
-Big Al
this might not be exact, but i measured my screen (5.25 inches high),
times 128 per inch and come up with about 672.
maybe dick will catch this and clue us in better.

IN RESPONSE TO THE QUESTION ABOUT THE TOTAL VERTICAL COUNT ON THE GENETRON THE SCREEN ACTUALLY MEASURES 6 INCHES DUE TO THE CURVATURE OF THE CRT TUBE. A CRT DOES NOT HAVE PIXELS. A CRT IS MADE UP OF PHOSPHORUS DOTS AND THE TOTAL VERTICAL DOT COUNT IS APPROXIMATELY 768 WITH A VERTICAL PER LINEAR INCH COUNT OF 128 ONE OF THE HIGHEST IN THE FISHFINDER INDUSTRY IF NOT THE HIGHEST. AS AN EXAMPLE AN INDEPENDENT EXPERT IN A PREVIOUS POST STATED THE LCD X 15 HAS 86 PIXELS PER LINEAR INCH. IN MY OPINION EVERY CONSUMER SHOULD DETERMINE THE VERTICAL PER INCH COUNT AND THEN MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION BASED ON THAT COUNT AND WHAT THEY CAN AFFORD TO SPEND. DICK KNUTSON GENETRON

Where can we find any information on the GENETRON products? I've looked all over the net, and on the on-line catalogs sites, and I can't find any GENETRON products, or information on their products. They are something I would be interested in as the unit I have now only has about 28 pic. per inch!
On your tombstone there will be two sets of numbers, the day you were born, and the day you die.
What you make of that little dash between them, is all that really matters.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INQUIRIES. MANY YEARS AGO WE WENT TO FACTORY DIRECT SALES. THE REASON WAS ALMOST DIRECTLY LINKED TO WHAT WE HAVE BEEN SEEEING ON THESE POSTS. TECHNICAL QUESTIONS!!! MANY OF YOU HAVE EXCELLENT QUESTIONS THAT THE AVERAGE SALESPERSON IN A STORE OR A CATALOG SERVICE PERSON JUST CANNOT ANSWER. MANY OF THESE SALES PEOPLE ALSO DO NOT HAVE THE ON WATER EXPERIENCE THAT MOST OF YOU DO.WE FEEL THAT WE MADE THE CORRECT DECISION GOING FACTORY DIRECT JUST LIKE SOME MAJOR COMPUTER COMPANIES HAVE DONE. GENETRON IS A SMALL COMPANY AND WE ARE ENTERING OUR 16TH YEAR OF DOING BUSINESS.WE ARE DEDICATED TO BUILDING THE VERY BEST FISHFINDER POSSIBLE NO HOLDS BARRED. WE ONLY MAKE ONE UNIT, THE GENETRON GT-9. WE ALSO ARE DEDICATED TO GIVING STRAIGHT UP INFORMATION TO THE CONSUMER ABOUT FISHFINDERS FULLY REALIZING THAT NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD A GENETRON. HOWEVER WE ALSO FEEL THAT THERE IS A LOT OF MARKETING HYPE OUT THERE BY SOME FISHFINDER COMPANIES THAT DESERVES TO BE ADDRESSED IN ORDER THAT YOU, THE CONSUMER, CAN MAKE A CHOICE BASED ON FACTS AND WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD. WE WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO SEND INFORMATION ON THE GENETRON TO ANYONE. YOU CAN E-MAIL ME PERSONALLY WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT FISHFINDERS OR REQUESTS FOR INFO AT { SONARS@ JUNO.COM) THANK YOU! since this subject hit "home" with me the last couple days, i have had several calls saying " sure, your just sponsored by genetron, that's your deal here" ...and more.
just for the record, i have, in no form or fashion, a sponsor contract with genetron or anyone involved with genetron. i'm just proud to own one.
however, i have run a genetron for seven years and have voluntarily, when asked, raved about how my genetron works. because it simply out performs anything i have access to in any other form. i will gladly take anyone out on the water to show you what i know in this regard. i was asked by some of you to offer my input about depthfinders in this forum. i am proud do so, as i have been, in many various related areas, in this forum. i've tried to be a leader and represent the pro element of the fishing world in a postive fashion to all of you, who are the nucleus of our great sport and industry. if i come across with anything but that intent, i whole heartedly apologize and will try to change that. so 'nuff said.
keep a tight line....

My brother-in-law uses a Genetron and it is by far the most fantastic unit that I have ever seen. He knows Dick and has been using the Genetron for years. The separation of fish from the bottom is unmatched by anything I have ever seen. Unfortunately they are expensive but when you think about it, what is one of the most important tools in your fishing boat? The depth/fish finder. Some day I too will run a Genetron...It is AWESOME!

I WOULD LIKE TO FURTHUR CLARIFY AND REINFORCE STEVE FELLEGYS STATEMENT REGARDING SPONSORSHIP, ETC. GENETRON DOES NOT SPONSOR ANYONE ON ANY PROFESSIONAL TOURNAMENT TRAIL. WE DO NOT GIVE AWAY GENETRONS TO ANYONE! THE MAIN REASON FOR THIS IS THAT WE DO NOT MAKE THAT MANY GENETRONS TO EVEN THINK ABOUT GIVING THEM AWAY. WE DO NOT SQUEEZE THEM OUT LIKE SAUSAGES LIKE SOME COMPANIES DO. MOST PROS CAN TELL YOU THAT WE ARE USUALLY BEHIND ON OUR ORDERS AND USUALLY SELL OUT OF UNITS VERY EARLY IN THE YEAR BECAUSE WE DO NOT MAKE THAT MANY OF THEM TO BEGIN WITH. DO WE APPRECIATE SOMEONE LIKE STEVE FELLEGY TELLING EVERYONE THAT OUR PRODUCT IS THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD WHEN IT COMES TO FISHFINDERS? ABSOLUTELY!!!! DO WE PAY STEVE A RETAINER? NO! DO WE PAY ANY OTHER PRO FISHERPERSON A RETAINER? NO! SO A BIG THANK YOU TO STEVE FROM EVERYONE HERE AT GENETRON AND KNOWING STEVE AND HIS DESIRE TO GET THE FACTS ABOUT ALL KINDS OF ISSUES TO EVERYONE THAT FISHES, EVERYONE OWES STEVE A BIG THANK YOU!!!! I have followed all of the threads that have been discussed on WC about the Genetron units. All though I will probably never own a Genetron simply for the money they cost I will say that Mr Knutson has always taken time to vist this site and aswer any questions that have been asked, for that I thank him. Dick if I ever hit the state lottery I will be in touch with you to order a GT-9. Thanks for your time and info.

On a completely unrelated topic, Dick I'm not sure if earlier versions of windows are the same, but with Windows XP, if you click on view in your menu bar, you can change your text size from smallest to largest, this would allow you to see even better than typing in caps, and would avoid comments from people who are unaware of your situation....(:
Other than that, your stuff is always informative, keep it up!!!

Steve,
I have found the threads on Fishfinders quite informative. I didn't take anyones posts as being over bearing or as sales pitches. We all have our own opinions based on our experiences and background.
I think yours is as welcome as anyone elses, Atleast to me.
As far as the disclaimers from those Being Sponsored, I have found that refreshing that those that are, do openly state so. I don't have any sponsors....Oops they Wife says she is mine :), But I surely will post a review of a product If someone asks for it based on my experience. No one should be exempt from that.
As for Dick from Genetron, I truely appreciate his knowledge in the field, and His Walleye Stories. KEEP em Coming Dick.
At least that is My Opinion.
Thanks,
-Rod-
