Power Bait or Gulp compared to minnows for Perch?

Has anyone tried Power Bait or Gulp for perch on Lake Erie or elsewhere? If so, how do these baits compare to live minnows? If it works, it would be nice to have warm dry hands this fall. Also, sometimes it is hard to find good minnnows - I really dislike PIN minnows.

I tried Gulp worms on BlueGills and they would bite on them but they would not really take them.

I've had good luck with Gulp worms from the bottle for bluegills by using a small bobber, a very small jig head and a #8 or 10 hook, but found that the worm works best if not too long. 3/4 to 1" is about right, otherwise they just take the end and don't get hooked.

Last spring had good luck using GULP! maggots on a hair jig under a float. Caught bluegill, crappie, & largemouth, all in numbers. All sucked in the maggots (1/2"-plus long bait) with gusto.

Have not had experience with GULP! & perch, however. I plan to give it a shot when ice forms.

The gulp works well, but don't leave it on your jig when your're done fishing. It will harden up toe the point where you can't tear it off. I bent a jig then finally threw it away because the gulp hardened so much. Not sure what would have happened if I put it back in water though.

They seem to absorb water and soften up some.

Bring along a plastic sandwich bag I put unused worm in it.They recomend you don't put back in package or glass container. I bought a jar and used them fishing for walleyes on worm harnesses and put in one in our sandwich bags we had used for lunch and works well. The sandwichI had was great and hopefully! I can use the left over used worm that were left on the hook to give them a good lunch,good fishing, good luck, try it works for me. :-)

Thanks for the tips on Gulp bait. I tried it for bluegills and bass and they go crazy for it. I will try it for perch on a spreader or rig alongside a minnow and see which they take.
