I was looking at the weather forcast for Boulder Junction around the 1st of September and it said about 60 to 70 degrees during the day and about 50 at night.

Last year I went around October 10th, it was this same weather and I caught nothing at all. Is there going to be a difference in the fish hitting due to maybe the water being warmer or can I expect to just go for the sights again?

I am thinking about a trip to the Minocqua area on Labor Day weekend. 7 or 8 years ago, my wife & I went there and rented a cabin for the week. She loves shopping in all those little towns. Can't get her to go to Canada though. (No shopping) She has said she would like to go back to Minocqua though for Labor Day. Any suggestions for a place where we could rent a cabin or something for the long weekend? I would like to catch some walleyes while she shops. Have my own boat. I know this is short notice and maybe there wouldn't even be anything available. But, it sounds like one more chance at a fishing vacation. Thanks for any suggestions.

Im lookin to catch and release some largemouth, panfish and hopefully run into some pike or musky.

I sometimes fish at Lake Whitney, but the fish there are normally medium in size. Im not sure I will go this year. I like smaller lakes because I have to rent a boat from Schauss'

I would try Allequash lake, schauss's rents there and it is a good mixed bag lake.

Yes, Allequash is a good choice. Just north of the island - in the north lake - is an old roadbed that runs north-south. This in an excellent place for smallies. Then there is a very large weedbed located directly west of the roadbed that harbours musky, big largemouth, and northern.

2 special places I found on the lake is at the northeast corner of the weed bed there is a rockpile that normally holds walleye, and the shallow 3 foot inside of the weedbed holding jumbo perch and monster gills.

Jig for the walleyes and slowly drift with bobbers, well away from the boat, for the jumbos and bulls.

2 other good choices are Escanaba and Little John, if your interested, I can tell you of good spots in these lakes as well.

Any of you guys know anything about White Sand Lake at Lac du Flambeau? Any contact numbers or places to stay at Allequash, Escanaba, or Little John? Where are these lakes located? Thanks, VANT

Allequash, Escanaba, and Little John are all off of hwy M by Trout lake and I don't think any of them have places to stay.(rustic camping on Allequash) Try Trout lake or motels in Boulder Junction. ( boulderjct.org) Never fished the White Sand by Lac du Flambeau only the White Sand on K by boulder Junction.

Anyone have thoughts, comments on either Trout Lake or the Manitowish Chain? Looking for a place to chase some late season walleyes and muskies. Would be going mid to late Oct., maybe first w/e in Nov. for a 3-4 day weekend.. Places to stay?? Thanks

There is a state campgroud on the shores of Trout Lake. Otherwise, all the rooms in Boulder Junction are very expensive. Unless your in the area to just drop a bunch of money, I would stay at one of the small hotels scattered around Minoqua/Woodruff. Don't be afraid to negotiate the price!

Otherwise, Trout Lake is know for slow action but big fish. Daytime try slipbobbing the deeper humps with large minnows. Also have spoke with people who do well on Trout at night, but don't know the ins and outs of this fishing.

another option for more affordable motels are Deerpath on hwy 51 or Northern motel on hwy 51, very basic but workable. Jim, Trout can be tough in fall for walleyes, at least for me. I do well on there from may to end of july but in the fall I have had very limited luck, but I am going to try it again this fall. I do better on the manitowish chain that time of year, Clear, Rest, and Island for me. the size of the fish will run smaller on the chain but the action will be better although I have caught fish up to 28 inches. I have also had better luck with bigger muskies on Clear and Island, but that could be because I spend more time on those two. good luck

Thanks so much. I am thinking this will be a quite successful trip. The weather report looks better and better every day!

Thanks again

S-bone, what colors/baits work on the Manitowish? Thanks.

Sure, I have heard good things about Escanaba, never heard of little john, but it sounds like a winner too.

Allequash I have fished, but that day it was fairly windy and a rowboat with an electric motor doesnt do so well. So I will need some alternatives in the case that there are some windy days.

Thanks in advance,
Nate P.

I generally use natural color cranks like sucker or perch depth raiders, but you have to have a quick set sucker out also. walleyes I use two tone 1/8th oz. jigs with 3-4inch chubs.

In that case, as far as what I know, then Little John is the best bet (the others I mention are a long pull with a stiff wind). There is a weed bed just to the west of the launch on Little John that does attract all the spieces in the lake. And then there are small points to the east that you can catch walleyes, if they are there of course!:-)

Yes, sometime in late Oct., early Nov. after HS football season. Thanks for the info.

Message to VANT regarding White Sand Lake in Lac du Flambeau.

I would not waist my time on this lake as it is very difficlt to fish due to the gin clear water conditions. As I recall there is only one lodge on the lake called Dillmans and I'm not even sure that the place is still open. The lake is also heavily worked over by the natives who spear walleyes during the spawn. It is a highly rated muskie lake and the smallie action can be great at times.
If you want to impress your wife with a nice place to stay, and one that is close to town, take her to Fence Lake Lodge. It's priced a bit high side, but the location, rooms, and resaurant are very well appointed.
