Hey guys, which one do you prefer for your spinner harnesses, round or faceted beads and why ?

Thanks

Always used round. Not for any particular reason, just always used round ones.

I use both and honestly haven't been able to tell a lot of difference in success rate. My thought is the beads serve their purpose and keep the spinner blade off the hook(s) along with add a bit of color to the presentation, and either round or faceted will fit the bill in a pinch.

I do not think faceted beads offer much of a different visual than round since the water is deflected over them by the blade. The only items that could be a little different is faceted clear that reflect light differently.

agree with smitty. of all the components in a crawler rig, i believe that the beads are the least important. really just separators. i do, however, exclusively fish stained water. have no idea about clear water presentations.

The thought with the clear glass faceted beads is the catch the light a similar manner of the eye of a baitfish.

Round ones here.

The only advantage I've found is faceted beads don't roll off the table as easy as round beads LOL! Faceted beads are supposed to reflect light more, but like any bait I think most of the looks are for getting the fisherman to buy it.

I have a interesting question: How many of you have watched a spinner in the water to see how it looks? My thoughts are a walleye will follow the bait or come up from behind to take a crawler harness. If that is true, on a reflective surface the blade will reflect back the color of the beads on the backside of the blade. If that is true, wouldn't the beads have a large effect on the overall color of the presentation as a walleye would see as it chases/follows the bait?

RD23,

You have a good point, and that would sure blow to heck the line visibilty issue, as the line would hardly even be able to be in the picture. I believe some fish take the bait from the side, some from the back, depending on the situation - where the bait and fish were relative to each other when the lure got the fish's attention, and etc.

Ain't fishing theory great to ponder?
