Hi Folks, am getting my boat out early this year to do some ski hunting in Kentucky, couldn't wait until the late May opener, lol. I want to get it running before I hauled it all the way down there and thought I could do some river/below dam walleye fishing in the process. Can someone point me in the right direction for walleyes in Mid March that are open season. I live in NW Wis but am willing to travel to the central part of the state as well, thx much.

You can try below the dams at Nekoosa, Petenwell, Castle Rock, or Wis Dells. I haven't been up there for awhile but that is the time frame I usually start. I believe they are rebuilding the HWY 21 bridge near the Petenwell Dam so it may be difficult to get to depending on where you are coming from. Email me at C20947.email@mot.com and I can try to provide more info.

Thanks Tom, appreciate the reply. That sounds like a great area. I have also heard about the Prescott area too. Any thoughts about there also? Thx again, I will be in touch.

If you get on the Wisconsin River around the Dells area, make DARN sure you have a good navigational map. Depth varies a lot and quickly. There are a lot of rock fingers sticking up like can openers ... see the scenery around you???? ... some of those points and cliffs are hiding in the water.
Good luck fishing!

The Mississippi below the Red Wing dam or the Alma dam can be very productive at that time. If you would like some info send me an email at saugerguy@aol.com. I may even meet you there..

TJ is correct. Nothing beats the DePere Dam on the Fox River. Good trophies up to 13lbs can be taken there to the mouth of Green Bay.
