I am looking for any and all information from you Erie guys on what works best. I would like to try some spoons on jet divers, and some have recommended the Pa's Fintail spoons. I am wondering if those are the best or are there others that work. I have looked at the Northport Nailers, and some have said they work well. What are your opinions???
Joe,
There's no doubt that Michigan Stinger Scorpions take more Lake Erie walleyes than all other spoons put together. Partially because there's a heck of a lot more guys running them. All those you mentioned and Wolverine Spoons will also catch fish. Fall colors are gold and copper spoons with orange, red, pink, purple & green accents. Last years stand out was razberry dolphin, copper spoon with pink on 1 edge and red on the other. The larger ones had green and glow tape, the scopions had no tape. If the fish stay as deep as they are now (unlikely) you'd be better off with Dipsys. And if they come way up (12' or higher) you'd want to pull cranks.
Anyway you'll have a good time!! Good luck.
ETT summed it up well.
Just a weekender but when spoons were starting to become more popular on erie Northport Nailers caught a lot of fish.
Somewhere along the line the MI Stingers became very, if not the most popular and thus the ones you hear about most. The bait suffered some PR issues regarding paint that has reportedly been addressed. (Never a problem for me & I bought baits from likely 10 or more places over several yrs but several reputable posters expressed concerns) But, that opened the door for people to look at alternatives though the stingers still rule.
Fintails are becoming popular and catch a lot of fish. Some guys use Luhr Jenson Croc's. IMO, Wolverine Silver Streaks were initially more popular on the Canadian side (maybe MI too?) but they are gaining ground in OH.
I mostly use Silver Streaks and MI Stingers in the small & med sizes. I'll buy Pa's the 1st time I see them in a color I want & don't currently have. So far, a friends Pa's only outfished my baits once when I couldn't match his color with what I had (bullshark). I generally select spoons to run based on color, then size. No strong preference between the stingers and streaks.
We have caught fish on K-B spoons (Doctor) and teardrop shaped generics that are not flutter spoons. Daredevil Flutterchucks, Erie Dearie Silverleafs, Pirates, Northports and a few others. Bud hurt them on Bay de Noc Laker Takers a while back but I think he did something wrong when he wasn't getting bite on stingers:)
ie: anything works -sometimes
I'd focus on ETT's colors but it can never hurt to have a blueberry muffin and a couple of silver based baits just in case. Razzberry dolphin was very hot last yr and it's worked well recently too. I have a copper with pink dots Silver Streak that would be tough to pry out of my hands. Confusion is one of the mainstays, confetti works when confusion is working, boy/girl, superman, green monkey puke, shrimp,...so many good spoons...colors...
Good Luck,
GU
I fish out of Michigan, but usually run to Ohio waters just over the border. Jr. Streaks (small silver streak), Stingers or Fishlanders are pretty much what I buy. My opinion is that the spoon color means less to a walleye on Erie that a crank, jig or spinner color. Just my opinion. A copper back is usually good sometimes silver is better. Some days there is a slight preference and you can adjust. Some spoons are definately better than others. I haven't fished for walleye since July. I have been concentrating on a different fish. If I give them a try again this year and ony run six lines I would probably start with....
Fishlander Monica
Silver Streak Pink and purple
Stinger Confusion
Stinger Rainbow trout
Stinger Kevorkian Confusion
Stinger Clown

You'll probably be in middle of the transition of spoon to crank bite. So both should work...as ETT said look at the depth the fish are at. Give Den a call at Sportsman Outpost 1-888-855-9032...he'll give you up to date info on where and what. I'll be up at that time as well...I will probably have both spoon and cranks out. Don't be afraid to pull the bigger Stinger spoon also.

I have some Fintail spoons that are holding up real well and are also very productive. Also heard that they just came out with some additional colors. Got the ones I have been using thru Walleye Central but do not see any new color chart showing their new color on Walleye Central. Can anyone tell me if there is a place where these new colors are being shown. Might want to get some more of them if the colors are what I want.
