How many colors of 18# leadcore can you get on the Daiwa 47 linecounter reels? What are others opinions on other brands of linecounters when wanting to get 10 colors of leadcore on the reel?

You can get all 10 colors on a 47. Room for a tish of backing to start the spool.

47s will get 10 colors of 27#, that is what I used to use with some backing and up to a 50 foot mono leader

Shimano Tekota 600 LC will also hold lead well.

Why do you need a linecounter with leadcore? It is in colored segments so you can tell how much you have out.

You could use a regular Diawa 47, no need for the LC model.

Hope this helps.

I like the Penn GTI 310/ this reel doesn't come with the line counter, but it is my all time favorite reel.

How much backing do use Brian?

I have about 100 yards of dacron line and 8 colors on my old sealine. I used too fish alot at Pathfinder in Wyoming and you never knew whether the next fish was going to be a Walleye or a big Brown Trout? The backing saved my ### several times! I would think with the Hybrids and Stripers in your waters, backing would be a must?

I was wondering about that too. I use a Penn 330GTI with a full core of lead, and 30lb power pro for backing for salmon so I can squeeze all the backing on there I can. I thought a 47 was too small.

The line counter function serves as a means to repeat exact depths which in some cases can be a game of inches verses feet while counting colors. Drop below the fish you are fishing for by 2 inches on your line sets and you may be fishless until you luck into the right depth again. For the $$$ I think the line counters are worth the investment for the lead setups.

Is that a joke or are you serious? If it was meant as a joke, I am laughing.

I use linecounters. Mainly because I get distracted easy and lose count of the colors out. I use Okuma 30LC's, Daiwa 47LC's, and Penns. My favorites are the Okumas.

Diawa 47`s do an excellent job with lead core.I use about eighty yards of tewnty pound mono under my full core (ten colors) and then just a twenty foot leader to the lure of twenty pound low vis mono.I actually think I get more hits with the short leader.I have tried longer ones to fourty feet but like the short leaders better..
Remember to wind it on very tight when you spool up and always use tension when you draw it back on the reel and you`ll do fine.I also have a thirteen color rig on an Okuma Zonair and it does an awesome job.Plenty of room for at least a hundred yards of mono under it and a twenty foot leader.
I did see a guy in ludington last week with a neat way to tie on lead core.He simply took out about five inches of lead.Slid the mono into the hollow end and did two simple overhand knots in the line. One at the meeting of the lead and mono and one at the tag end....I have not tried it yet but he said it was great.Might be worth a shot.Looked very very clean, neat and tight......LOVE the lead core!If your not pullin` lead you should be!!...FISH HARD~Wahoo

I think several popular leader to core knots are covered here:

I agree with the guy and the overhand knot system. For the last 4 years I've been pulling cranks with lead and 12 foot fireline leaders using using this knot and have never broken off at the knot. I like to troll over suberged timber in reservoirs so I get my fair share of the snags. Most of the time I can pull the plug free but when line breaks it's always somewheres in the leader not at the splice. In my opinion the Daiwa 47 with 10 colors of lead is a excellant choice for a reel.

I let line out on several reels at once. The lincounters let me know exactly how much is out on each setup...
