Just looking for some input on what type of line is recommended for trolling Dipsey's on the big lakes for wallye and steelhead. Thanks for your info.

On Lake Erie the most popular choice is one of the braided lines with pound test ratings between 30 - 50 pounds and line diameter from 8 - 12.

Power Pro, FINS PRT Braid, Spiderwire Braid and Berkley Whiplash are all ones I've used.

We almost always run a snubber behind the dipsey.

If yu can find it, Spiderwire Fusion works good.

It has a rounder profile than the braided lines, and it catches fewer spiney water fleas.

I just came back from Lake Michigan, and the dipsys performed well with this line on several Kings and Steelheads.

Me and my guys use a mix between 30/8 power pro and fireline, all different colors so you can get minor tangles out easier. The other guys who posted all use good line also depends what your looking for, try to get something with 10 pnd test diameter so you can follow the trolling bible.

You'd better say go get 30# - 8# dia. Power Pro so you can follow the new Big Water Edition of Precision Trolling, because that's the super braid Mark Romanack used to develope the new dive curves.

Due out in Nov. A must have for the serious trollers.

A Great Lakes edition based on Power Pro 30/8? gimme gimme, hehe.

I've believed for a while that the PP line runs deeper than using the conversion chart for 8 pound test would indicate. It will be interesting to see what the dive curves say.

Non-stretch lines are the best when you wish to fish deep - like 60 feet or more - as they cut the water for less resistance.

But they can be a reason why fish will reject your offering in rough water. The surges from being pushed by the larger waves will shoot the bait away from less aggresive fish.

In that case try using 20 pound test abrasive resistant mono. The stretch in the line (and a long dipsey rod helps too) will even the speed of the bait.
