I have 4 Ram Rod 2000 Rodholders. Nice Idea and work well, but they seem to Wobble a bit too much in the Bases . Sometimes when I grab the rod fast they jump straight up but not out of the bases. I have side and flush mount bases.. Thinking of switching to another Brand ANy comments?

I have not used the ram rod holders, but if you are going to switch, I would go with the cabelas rod holders. They are basically the same thing as scotty rod holders but have the cabelas name on them. They are great rod holders and don't wiggle much in the base and are very durable.

I like the Cabelas quickdraw holders, not for the quickdraw feature but because less of the rod handle is sticking in your boat and I also like the way they hold casting reels. Pretty solid units and easy to remove your rod from them.

I had the same problem, and refused to use them because of the wobble.

I did find, that with the atwood base, the ram holders worked just fine.

When I talked to Ram about it, they indicated that this was the case for the "first run" when they were getting the mold dialed in.
They indicated that "current production" holders no longer wobble.

I haven't tried a "current production" holder, so can't say.

Conceptually, the holders are great.

Take care

I've got Ram rodholders on my boat, installed in August of 2001, my complaint is that they fit to tight, I really have to jerk and pull hard just to get them out when I'm done fishing. I keep thinking that with more use they will free up a bit more but that hasen't been the case so far.

The problem I have with the Rams is I do not like the twisting... If you hold any of the bases in one hand and the rodholder in another they simply twist too much...... I checked some of the Newest ones and they seem all the same.. The ones I have were purchased last spring and advertise "now with wobble free bases" Anyone else try Attwood Bases?

I have several sitting in the garage - unused. They are WAY too loose for my liking. After reading the other post I think I'll see if I can return them for an exchange. I do like the design and I have lots of other RAM stuff on my boat. Otherwise they'll continue to collect dust. In my opinion it's tough to beat the Fish-On holders. I have been using them for years and have total confidence in them.

Any of you guys that want to get rid of your RAMS, send them all to me.

I'll be very happy to use them.

I find them just the ticket for my needs.

I agree that the Ram holders fit very loosely in the Fish On Mounts. I have since purchased several rail mounted holders made by Ram and the Ram holders fit fine. Ram advertises that their mounts will fit in several other popular holders. While the Ram rod holders physically fit other brands of mounts, the tolerances have to be so great that the rod holders wobble. Go with Ram mounts which are made to tighter tolerances specifically for Ram holders.

True, they are a bit sloppy in other non RAM mounts. The RAM surface and slot mounts are tight as a drum.

But you guys can still send them to me if you wish.

The mounts I am referring to are RAM MOUNTS /made by RAM for RAM... I have 4 Side Mounts and 2 Flush Mounts Again, fit a bit sloppy.. Bass Pro is now Carrying them for 2002 I was in the store and checked them out They are all the same, looseness in the Bases... I checked out FISH-ON.. decent but kind of looked cheap.. Also checked out Scotties and They are the tightest and seem to look best of all.

ESOX, if going by the handle and you want to use them for musky, go with the Down East salty model. if it is for walleye, most of the others will do, but i prefer any of the ones made out of metal. just my opinion, and from years of experience. good luck and good fishin.

I've used some of the Cabela's 360 holders & have liked them for trolling planer boards for eyes. I just got an In-Snap cleat mount holder & it doesn't seem to be as sturdy-built as the Cabela 360. It also doesn't have as mcuh rod rotation capability. However, it is convenient to clip into cleats of the right size.

Have you tried it on a boat cleat? I know your new boat has not arrived yet but you mentioned you may install more cleats.. Also Did ya find out if the Lund has the CLeat like IN A SNAP Reccomends?

On the Rams I thought about drilling a small hole into one of the side mounts I have and adding a Thumbscrew to try and take out some "Play" Problem is I am hoping to use flush mounts on the new boat so It would do me no good.

Hi BE,

I have Fish-On mounts on my boat, but my RAM's are very loose in the supplied RAM mounts. Very sloppy. I understand that the newer ones are tighter. I think you'd be surprised how loose these really are. If RAM will swap them out that would be great. Believe me, you don't want a 30# kitty tugging on the ones that I have :-).

I am primarily using them for Walleye... I had a few Berkley Bases off an old boat laying around.. The Rams DID fit, but way too loose. I have yet to see a RAM that does not twist in its base.

Ive got the rams on the bow for bait rigging..like the height....dont have any problems with them being wobbly...tried in the rear trolling boards and long lining....found them to be tough to use in that situation so I put on atwoods in the back....they work well..... definitly would not use the rams with other mounts... way to loose fitting
