With the mild winter any body got any predictions on when the first open water fishing maybe on the Rainy River by Baudette MN??? Can't wait to get up there, but anticipate the season may start earlier based on the mild winter so far.

We always figure anytime after March 10th. With the warm weather we've been having maybe tomorrow (yuk yuk). Seriously, f it doesn't get cold we could be out there before the 10th.

historically, march 10 would be considered very early. the majority of fisherman magrating to the rainy river is closer to the end of march. the early march trips may include some interesting experiences at the boat launches. the ice is usually a problem at the launches in early to mid march. good luck. jim c
