Just wanted to ask you guys what in your opinion is the best line for making spinner leaders, and why.

I use Trilene XT. It seems to work pretty good.

Hi,

The best line for leader is Fluorocarbone. It's almost invisible in the water and it's very strong and abrasive resistant.

I had a lot of problem with VANISH, don't buy this one. The fluorocarbone from STREN is a lot better.

Bye.

Low vis 14lb Trilene XT. Right balance of stiffness, abrasion resistance and strength yet easy to tie and priced right. Rigs don't get all tangled up when stored in snack-size ziplock bags.

Open water : Fluorocarbon
Most of the water I fish down here, 15/4 Power Pro. You can pull that thing out and save your rig if you are running heavier main line.

Just depends, open water is the easiest to decide anything that has the right characteristics as pointed out above. If you are fishing near sumberged brush, trees or vegetation I like the braided stuff with light wire hooks so I can pull out my rig and use it more than once.

Got give a lot of credit to the team that won our governors cup, they donated over 80 spinners I think fishing the "hot spot" and never blinked. I'm pretty sure they weren't using braid, but then again I was watching from 8th place. ;)

It depends. Are you making weapon-type rigs for casting? If so, I like 14 and 17# Stren. If they are harness types for trolling, I like flurocarbon -- 15 - 20#.

I use Silver Thread AN-40, have tied tousands of spinners with it with no problems. Very abrasion resistant, strong and limp. Mike

14 lb. Iron Silk fits the bill for Me. Tough and VERY abrasion resistant. My .02 - Bob WC#253.

P-line leader material. It is Florocarbon, but knots hold better, and less issues than regular florocarbon. It isn't cheap. Only in 25 yard spools that I have found, but it does work very nice.

I use nothing but AN-40 Silver Thread in the clear or green color. Been doin' that for about five yearswith out any problems or issues. It's by far the toughest line per diameter I've found. I use 10lb. test for most fish but will go to 12 or even 16lb. test in places where the fish run big and are not line sensitive...such as Lake Erie or Saganaw Bay.
