I have about 300 nite crawlers left from the season. I bought what I usually use but the bite was terrible. I have them in a refrigerator at work but thats not the solution. The females at work don't like them in where they keep their sandwiches. It gets cold in Buffalo so keeping them outside all winter wouln't work. My basement is heated and I keep the garage around 55. I keep them in a insulated container with a worm bedding (Fat & Sassy) they stayed healthy and fat all summer, in this.
I would like to have some around for winter fishing.
Any idea's.

20 years ago, we used thousands of crawlers a year, and were good at keeping them on hand. We seldom tried to hold them all winter even though we had a refrigerator just for them.
But if you want to try...here's my suggestions.
Go through them carefully...preferrable by dumping them out on a large piece of cardboard, and discarding any weak or sickly looking worms. Then put them in new bedding and keep them at around 40 degrees. Repeat this process every month and you'll probably salvage a portion of your investment. (quite a bit of trouble)
We found it easier to "plant" them where we hunted worms, and just get in the spring, on those rainy evenings when they are all over the place.

Jim, I have some also and am sure I will do the same. One thing I am going to try this winter on my jigs is some Gulp worms that come in the jar the smaller ones. I am betting (NOT a betting man) they will work good on a jig. Can't wait to try it. Skeeter
I've spent most of my life fishing. The rest of it I wasted!
Use the WALLEYE CENTRAL BUSINESS DIRECTORY under marine supplies, it works!
