Most tailraces have one fast water ramp that is open almost year round for people to use during nicer weather in the winter.
My Question: When boat fishing tailraces in late winter and early spring, how many of you guys will take the time to let the water drain out of your trailer before pulling up the ramp? When you pull up the ramp right away, it is like broadcasting a layer of water on the surface of the ramp. Usually the dusk and dawn temps are in the 20s, and this can and does become a problem for those coming and going afterwards afterwards.
I never used to do this, until several years ago, someone told me about it, it made perfect sense. It was like DUH, Why didnt I think of that. I wonder if it is that way for most, that they just never thought about it.
15-20 seconds extra on the ramp cannot make a difference in your fishing day, but can make quite a difference for someone whos rig slides down the ramp, jack-knifes his boat into the dock, and then needs to be pulled out.
