The traditional Jiffy has been a workhorse for years, can't go wrong with them. I understand that the new blade design they are offering this year, will dramatically improve the performance.
If I were to buy new right now, I would certainly look at the Lazer Power auger. I have a couple of the hand augers and they are sweet.
Hope this helps!

I would recommend you look at the 2hp Lazer. I have a 3hp and it is pretty heavy.

Really like my big jiffy, little heavy but starts ever time and cuts really quick

I have the 2hp StrikeMaster Lazermag. Unless your cutting 4' of ice it's all you could ask. Then I don't know what it would do. LOL

My vote is for the Jiffy Stealth in an 8” or 9" configuration. The 2 hp model with the 8" is a great match for power and speed with less weight. The 9" is great if you wish a bit more room in the hole.
They cut new, old, soft, or hard ice with ease. They re-open old holes safely and efficiently without jumping around like a shaver blade system will.
As with all the Jiffy's the cutting blade maintenance is a snap. With periodic simple maintenance a set of blades will last years. Hard to beat the durability and performance of a Jiffy in my book.

I'll second the vote on the Lazer's. I bought a manual which works great for anything less then 6-8". When the ice gets past that, I break out the 2HP Lazer, which cuts through thick 12" plus with ease. Very nice , very reliable.
Thanks for the help guys asa usual you get the best information right here....Karp

I have used a 2 hp 8 inch Lazer for quite a few years. It has always worked very well.
I decided to buy my own this year and bought a 3hp, 8 inch Lazer from Reed's. Right now, they have a bunch of refurb's (3 hp only) on their website. The 3 hp was cheaper than the new 2 hp. It is heavier, but for almost $100 off the price of a new 2 hp, I figure that I will get over the weight.
