Hey bud. Please provide a little insight as to what you are looking for so that we may help you out.

perchjerker is 100% right in his comment. You don't need to spend a big pile of cash on a trolling rod. The big name rods are more sensitive if you're looking for a jigging rod and you can better justify spending some money there. To buy any rod just because of the name on it is nonsense. It must still fit your purpose.

Yes, please provide more info. Don't buy a rod for the price tag or name. Do you need something for jigging, rigging, trolling, casting, cranking, bouncing, etc.? Please give us some details so we can help.

Ryan,

Can you please tell us if this is part of a college psychology course experiment for you? Thanks.

WAeyes,

I guess you cued in on a "poor college kid" and the question on very expensive rods? You know, though, that doesn't mean he owns one, even through e-Bay! Like I asked, maybe he's doing a research study for a course - that's a valid reason for posting a question IMHO.

When I was a poor college kid @ THE Univ. of Illinois, my dorm only served us 20 meals a week and I usually didn't have enough cash to buy Sunday PM burgers. The criterion for what constitutes "poor" currently is a lot different than the "poor" we experienced!

i guess i am a poor college kid but that doesn't mean that i don't budget my money wisely. i am not a psychology major, took it once and got a D. i am just really thinkin about getting one of those St. Croix rods. i have a st croix (premier/PS66MLF) it just seems a lot heavier and flimsy than my techna. i have heard you all talk about a st croix that is comparable to the techna....avid?? i guess i am just lookin. i try to get a different rod/reel every year to fit in my needs.
just so you know, i get all my rods for discount price (techna=$50) at outlet stores etc. thats about all.
the ##### i get for taking a pole......once.

Ryan,

I have a Techna AV and a St. Croix Legend Elite. Each are different weights and actions, used for different purposes. I like both equally well. Like you, I bought both of these rods at substantially less than regular retail, with the Fenwick costing less than half as much as the St. Croix. If I were doing it again, and there was the same price difference in the two brands, I would opt for the Fenwick. I don't belive there is enough difference between the rods to pay twice as much for the St. Croix. That said, I also believe the St. Croix to be an excellent rod and I am glad that I bought it. Good Luck and have fun making your choice!

If you can buy the techna's for 50, then I would just keep buying different models. That's a steal.

Hey ryan,

Just giving ya a hard time because of your handle. If you want to get a top of the line St. Croix, then by all means do it...I did and I couldnt afford it either. Check out Ebay and watch it closely. Sometimes one of those special deals will sneak up on ya. I get a grin on everytime I pick up my $300 rod knowing I only paid $200 for it. Good Luck in your search.

I've got a hand full of Loomis, and a few other brands, but I keep going back to my Bass Pro Extreme rods. I have four and I just ordered two more. For the money, they can't be beat. On sale now for $60.00.

You have a handfull of Loomis? No wonder your "ryan the poor college kid"! (just kiddin' ryan!) I would have to recommend Pinnacle series as an all around "good buy".

What I'm seeing happen on this post is a discussion on whether Ryan is truly a "poor kid" or if he owns a "handful of expensive Loomis rods" and has a bundle of bucks like some of the posts on this thread suggest?

C'mon, Ryan, did you buy that handful of Loomis rods or is it your wealthy alter ego, another Ryan? We're being distracted from some of the real fishing issues with this one.

I fish all species of fish, Musky, Walleye,Bass etc....here's the rule to follow....If it says IM8 on the rod and you can afford it...Buy it! it's just that simple. I don't care what name is on it...IM8 is the rule to follow. Nothing compares to that kind of rod for strength or flexibility. Bass Pro has several IM8 rods check it out.

Post 13 was posted by Terry, not ryan. Sorry about the mix-up, I just back on line and noticed it. Anyway, ryan, check out the Bass Pro Extremes. (By the way, did you know that smiles are contagious, spread some around.)
