View Full Version : Crossing the Canadian border with a dui

I'v been told that Canada will not let you in if they know you have had a dui conviction in the states, no matter how long it has been because that is considered a felony there.
I found a web site that says you have to fill out an application, show them you have been reformed and pay $150 to correct this.
I have called several numbers trying to get a live person that I can talk too, but have not had any luck.
Just wondering if anyone here has been down this road and if the $150 is a one time deal or if you have to pay this every time you enter Canada.
Thanks.

Just went through the border in January at Baudette. 2 of the guys in my party had DUI's. One was just last summer and one was 7 or 8 years ago. They didn't get stopped or asked about it.
Not sure what the deal is. I've heard that too about paying and filling out forms. I don't know. Don't ask, don't tell???
Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

There is a thread running 217 posts long on this topic on the "Canada" board here at Walleye Central. Maybe it finally got gone off that board, but everything was discussed at least 23 different ways...LOL :-)
Check it out!

Wow, Thanks T-mac, I only got to about 140.
Looks like I may not be going to Canada anymore, I will try for a pardon but sounds like it's not a sure thing.
Really disappointing, here I was glad to have that behind me(over 5 years) and now this. Real bad mistake that I made.
You need to apply for a Certificate of Rehabilitation. If approved, you will not have to pay the fee again. However, the application is very lengthy and time consuming. Expect a minimum of nine months start to finish.
