Hey guys - started replacing all my line on my trolling setups and thought would clean up everything. A couple years ago, I placed some masking tape around the bottom of the cork handles to differentiate how far off they were at 100'. Obviously, they left some goo, but also a cleaner cork stripe.

What is the best way to clean up my cork handles? And once they are clean, anything I can seal them with. I want these to last another 6 years, they have been very good to me. Thanks.

Light sanding with a fine sandpaper will restore to like new.

I wouldn't want to put anything on the cork, so maybe someone else has ideas what you could do.

REW told me to use Simple Green. Works like a charm as does most things REW says. Warm h2o and a sponge or cloth....good as new. It does take glue residue....your not the only one with that idea...hehe

Had the same issue afew years back. The cork was slippery, I really noticed it on hot days. Bass fisher buddy- said take hot water -alittle tide -and a kitchen scrubbing pad. He was right- it went off easy. All the suntan lotion-chip grease- cold chicken grease-all gone plus you feel good using a new rod again.O-Ya no sealant on cork it`ll get slippery again.

Good Luck Fishin,

There is a product sold the you can wrap on your rod handles. I used it last year and it works great. It is a non-sticking tape which you put on in overlapping wraps and then you secure the top with a piece of tape on the top. It is called Rod Wrap.

The only down side is you have to totally unwrap to remove your reel.
