Where are thinking of trying it at. You can be very successful just fishing for them like your trolling for walleye but let the lines out farther.

Hey I recognize a few of those pics...LOL...some good memories!

Seriously though Airwave is giving good advice - when I make my annual trip to Lake Ontario I normally start trolling my dipseys with whatever Michigan Stinger spoons I had on from my last trip in Lake Erie. Maybe speed up a bit and as Brion said likely run your dipseys a bit deeper. The dodgers & flys/cutbait definitely work but aren't a necessity to catch fish. You'll end up getting some local favorite spoons wherever you go - and every time I've caught walleye on them when I return "home" to Lake Erie.

Great Lakes Angler magazine is a must have for a salmon fisherman.

Good Luck,
Steve

Swede,

The very best book I have found came out last year. It is called Great Lakes Salmon and Trout Fishing: The Complete Trollers Guide. Written by Chip Porter and Dan Keating, it gives a ton of quite excellent information on the topics you are looking for. This is a must have, especially for a beginner!!

Porter also has two videos available which are good. Reach him at www.chipporter.com.

I agree that Great Lakes Angler Magazine is full of info, but just browsing the glangler.com website forums will give you a superb education on Great Lakes salmon fishing. Its the Walleye Central of the salmon world.

Good luck,
Woodsdweller

Dan has put together a killer book...I have bought a lot of tapes, books, videos, and gone to quite a few class and seminars, and none compare to Dan's book. I wish he would have come out with it 10 years ago...its the beat 24.99 you will spend.
