I would like to get everybody's opinion. I am in the market to buy some new raingear. But I am not sure what to get. Do I spend $400+ on a set from Cabelas or Bass Pro or should I spend $50 + on a pair of Frogg Toggs and use the rest of the money on another Rod/reel?
Just wanted to see what other thought.

I dont really know much about the Frog Togs. I will only say that as a tournament angler, your rain gear is one of your most important pieces of equipment. Yea, I flinched at dropping $400.00 on raingear,, that is until I spent 6 miserable wet days on Lake Erie last spring. Worth every penny,

i like my frogg toggs, but i'm not sure about them in really cold wet conditions. i only fish with them in july-august timeframe and they have been great. i've fished with them on a sunny dry 40 degree day over fleece and they were fine. just think one of those guide outfits might be better for prolonged bad weather.

Check out Cabela's bargin cave on their website. There are a lot of pieces of raingear at super savings. The Guide Wear jacket, with the signature bibs is under $200., can't beat a price like that.

You're going to get the rod and reel anyway. }(

I can not say anything about the Frogg Toggs specifically, I've never owned a pair. What I can say is that I have tried just about every type of rain gear that has been made and always had something go wrong with it just when I needed it the most! Two years ago I took the plunge and spent the bucks to get the Cabela's "Guide Gear"! I'll NEVER go back!! That outfit has performed outstandingly, and we have been in some pretty bad situations that I know my "other" gear would (and did) have fail me in the past!

Watch for it in the Bargin Cave, like someone has said. That's where I picked mine up for 40% less!! You won't regret it.

A couple of years ago, Reed's had a Stearns Gore Tex suit for $100. I bought a set and really like it.

Last summer, my daughter really fished with me alot, I think she only missed 2 trips, so I figured this year I would get her a set of good rain gear. Last year, we tried some cheaper outfits and they all worked until we fished in an all day rain, then she got wet, BIG TIME. I figure if she is willing to put in the time, it is worth getting her good gear, so I got a Cabela's Visa and will apply the points for her own good rain suit (we will probably do one othe the Guide wear versions from the Bargain Cave.)

This must be your lucky day. Cabelas has their Dry Plus on sale for $150 for both pieces. This stuff is awesome. I bought it instead of Guidewear cause the lady at the Mitchell store told me it was just as good quality. She was right. I bought it in March 01 and have worn it at least 200 times summer fishing, ice fishing, doing other stuff and it looks just like the day i bought it. I cant say enuff good things about it. Good Luck.

Guide Wear.

Like Ranger I had tried quite a few different kinds. Wound up being disappointed and wet. I finally broke down and spent the cash for Guide Wear. And in the last 4 years I have never gotten wet and always been comfortable. They are worth every penny and if I ever lost my Guide Wear I'd spend the cash tomorrow without blinking an eye.

The dryplus is good, but it is not Guidewear. I've had both. Trust me on that one.

How does the BPS 100MPH gear compare to Guidewear?

Also do you guys with Guidewear have the insulated or non-insulated?

Thanks

Cabelas Guide where is not the answer, not anymore. I have had a new pair for each of the past two falls and got wet right away. Guide wear is not as good as it used to be. The best suit I have is a set from huntnshop.com. It is made from saddle suede. A little warm in the summer. They have a new set for warm weather. Doug

Non. It is cut well enough to layer from early spring to late fall. And for the few times it's extremely cold, I wear my Herter's duck gear.

I`ve used guide wear for years. Seems every couple of years I have to return it for an up grade. The suit fades - leaks in the rear end.
I stopped by my local gander mountain store and they have the good gortex rain gear on sale-$79-for the jacket -$99 -pants they have misc. sizes. Gander stands behind their stuff so if you don`t like it return it. If they don`t have your size buy it anyway and return in the spring and say it was a gift and get the right size. I don`t think they`ed care as long you bought the product from them and it was never worn.
Then while your there buy the fishing rod!
I`m sure they will like that.

I bought non-insulated bibs and an insulted jacket in guidewear.
