I bought the G Loomis IMX SJR722 but am having second doubts about it. If you were to spend the money would you buy the IMX or the Legend Tournaments from St Croix?

Thanks,
Mike

Why are you having second thoughts?

I think they're probably pretty comperable. Personally, I have a lot more respect for St. Croix these days. If you have no allegance I'd go with the rod that is the most comfortable for you.

Maybe some of the guys that fish factory built rods will have some input on which one is outfitted with better components.

I do think the LE is a better graphite than the IMX. I still don't have enough experience with the LT's to make that comparison.

I have to repeat Matt's question. What are you having 2nd thoughts about?

I have had a Loomis IMX 722 for many years. However, I very seldom use it any more for walleye fishing. It is a very fine rod and it is very sensitive. However, unless I am doing some very deep jig fishing that I need a fairly stiff rod - I find that this rod - is typically too stiff for most of my walleye fishing.

Conversely, the IMX 721 suits my style pretty well. It is one power lighter, and suits most of my jigging needs better.

Having said that, I am in the process of building several of the Blue St. Croix Tournament rods for customers. I am pretty impressed with these rods, with respect for their apparent smoothness and correct feel for the application. I don't have any on the water experience with them yet - but off the shelf they seem to be impressive.

Loomis builds fine rods, and I expect that they have a rod that wil exactly fill your fishing requuirement. Since you are having 2nd throughts about the 722, I am speculating that you may have simply selected the incorrect model , for the way that you want to fish.

Take care

I am having second thoughts about the power of the rod. I mainly fish 1/8 oz. jigs but ocassionaly (spring and fall) fish with a little heavier jig because of the current. Do you guys recommend the 721 for this than or should I stick with the 722?

If 1/8 is your mainstay, and you don't go a whole lot over that, I'd step down to the 721.

The 781 has a bit softer tip, probably just because it's longer. And if you were looking at the 6'6", I think you could stay at the 2-power.

Because Loomis has such dramatic tapers, their 6 footer can be stiff while their 6'6" models can feel too limp for some.

Stratos

Rogue SJ663 for 1/8oz & up. Rogue SP663 for 1/16th. You can buy both for just a bit more than what you paid for the IMX. I also think you'll come to regret using the 6'er. 6'6" is the way to go IMHO.

Narrowed it down to 2 rods now. The loomis sjr721 or st croix legend tournament 6'6''. If I buy the sjr721 now i will probably also be buying the sjr781 or sjr782 shortly after. I am leaning towards the loomis line right now unless I hear different from you guys.

I have both, but the St.Croix is the Elite - 6 ft. ML.

I always pick up the Elite as my perferred choice. The Loomis has the 2000 Stradic while the Elite has the Stradic 1000. Part of the equation is that I like the 1000, but the rod is also part of the reason.

Both are great setups.
