View Full Version : Berkley Big Game Lip Grip
Has anyone had any experience with this new product? After having treble hooks dug out of my fingers a couple of years ago, I'm kind of anxious to give it a try. Never trust a Northern Pike. Do they really hold on to the fish? Any feedback would be appreciated.

BO,
it looks to me like an imitation of the "Boga grip" which is popular with saltwater and freshwater fisherman, although 2 1/2 times the price of the berkeley. I've got a Boga though and it is a very well made product and comes with a built in spring scale that is very accurate. I dont think the Berkely has a scale. I'd have to see one in person to see how the quality compares to the Boga.

I too have a Boga. They are great for crankbaits and pike and I've never had a fish slip off. Once your locked on to the jaw he's yours. I've found them to be very easy on fish- certainly better than touching them with your hands. I haven't seen the Berkley but I can tell you that a Boga will last a lifetime. An important feature is that the handle spins independent of the clinchers. This really relieves the torque placed on your hand and wrist when a big northern or a cat is floppin around after you pull them out of the water. I would not buy one with a fixed handle.
The catch22 about the boga being able to spin is that when a fish decides to go nuts it will swing your lure around with the hooks looking to bury into something. I know two people who had muskies do this to them while on the boga grip and had to go to the hospital for hook removal and stitches. I also have know people who dropped the $100 boga overboard. It is sad to see grown men cry! :)
