View Full Version : Rainy Lake
I would like to know if Rainy Lake would be a good choice for a trip this fall, second or third week of September. Also, what presentations catch walleyes at this time of year. I will hire a guide for a day to get started. I plan to stay on the American side and I could go to the Canadian side if necessary.
Thanks for your response.
fishing at rainy is great all the time. great scenery and multi-species fishing. big smallies, crappies, walleyes and mousekies.
i stay at thunderbird lodge. great accomodations and guides etc.
rainly lake houseboats is another good choice. billy dougherty is one of the best if not the best guide on the whole lake, out of rainy lake houseboats. he owns the place.
i use spinners and crawlers year 'round on rainy. most locals use jigs and minnows. find 'em and they will bite. depth will be very critical. exact. dropoffs are sharp so if the finder say 24ft. when you get a fish, STAY at that number. ten ft. either with the boat will change the whole world.
have a great trip!

SJW,
Do not, I repeat do not, forget about smallie fishing at this time of year. It's a phenomenal smallie fishery with all the humps and rocks. Good luck .
