Since Supertroller asked the question in another post, I figured I might as well put up a post. I've been absent for the last 6-8 months.
9/11(b@st@rds!), a slow economy and falling natural gas prices have all taken their toll on our project. My dream of living out west will have to wait. My employer is relocating me to the Dearborn area of MI. I'm planning to look for place S. of Ypsilanti, MI. I've been assigned to a new project for now.
The good news in all of this is I'm planning to drag my Warrior out in time for the spring run. I love river fishing! I'm kind of excited to be in SE MI since I view this area as a hotbed of Walleye fishing. I'm planning on hanging around the upcoming RCL which should be very cool. I read Walleye In-sider like a teenager reads a Playboy.
If I'm lucky, I'll also get to periodically prowl around the Fox Chain back in Illinois courtesy of OOC.
p.s. Any suggestions of towns to consider within a reasonable commute of Dearborn - South or West Suburban only - would be greatly appreciated. I prefer country over urban. I'll be renting until things firm up.

Wecome to the area!
I am a Dearborn resident, so I may be able to help you out.
Personally, I would look in southern Wayne county. Places like South Rockwood, Flat Rock, Brownstown, Carleton. Its not nearly as congested as places to the west, those areas are really getting built up. And its a fairly easy commute up I-75. I am always hearing about traffic snarls going west. And trying to drive from Brighton or Saline or areas to the west to get to lake erie can get a little long.
Drop me a line if I can be of any help.

Welcome to the area, Steve. Feel free to e-mail me also if I can help you out in any way.
I grew up in southern Wayne Co. (New Boston) when it was pretty rural, and my parents still live there. It's not quite as rural any more, but it's still not bad. I've lived SE of Saline for the last 15 years, and the Ann Arbor sprawl gets closer each year with more farmland being converted to subdivision. If you've got kids, I'd certainly recommend the Saline school district over Ypsi, although housing prices have gone through the roof here. Your biggest decision will likely be a trade-off between a desire for country living vs. tolerance for a longer commute.
Hey pj, I've got no problem at all with the drive from Saline to Lake Erie! :-) Plus, I'm only 15 miles away from great inland lake fishing.

Maybe you guys can help me - How is the Trenton area as a place to live? Any chance of finding a condo w/ garage to rent? I'd really like to have place to keep my boat. I'm always tinkering with it and would like to keep it close.

There are some nice spots in Trenton. Its in the burbs, though. Real close to the river and lake, though.

Stever- welcome back to the wonderful Midwest. I'm sure you love MI. Let me know when you are planning to return to No Ill and are jonesin for the Chain. Keep in touch. Is the Warrior still here or bring you drag her out west? Did you get a chance to fish Peck?
We can talk more later.

Steve, Stop in at the Palace show in Auburn Hills sometime between Feb 21 and 24. We are at the Off Shore\Riviera booth across from the fish trough. We can talk fishing the area then. I will be there and several other WC folks, including Juls will be there too.

Steve Welcome to one of the best spring runs of walleye in the world.
The above mention of areas to look at are good. Also consider areas between dundee and ypsilanti. Along the I275 or US23 corador, semi country living. And if you have time join the Downriver Walleye Federation in Trenton. Go to our web site to take a look. www.dwfonline.com

Steve,
Check out Newport. Probably the most rural of any areas mentiond. It is south of South Rockwood but right on I-75. Only 15 minutes from Lake Erie and probably only 15 minutes from Trenton channel. Probably between 20 and 30 minutes to Dearborn. Depends on what part of Dearborn.
I know its a bad word here but for the days when walleyes got lock jaw the bass fishing on Erie is really good. 3 and 4 lb smallies and large mouth are abundent.

Hey Steve, congrats on the move. At least you'll be relocated to a great fishing hole!
You mentioned living in the country, but if I were you, I'd definitely check out some of the downriver 'river' areas too. I lived on the Trenton channel in Trenton pretty darn cheap for years, and commuted to Dearborn job no problem. Was always nice to come home to the water - and be able to get out when the weekend crowds are gone. You can actually smell when hoardes of fish are moving thru the river (both directions) and it's great really!
Check the Classifieds in the News Herald for downriver rentals: http://www.thenewsherald.com/
good luck!

Homer-
Im sure your drive is no problem.
Im just a little spoiled living so close, I guess.
Actually, I wish I lived out your way!!
Like you said, there is some nice inland fishing out that way.
When the kids are out of school, we will be heading west or south, probably. Probably another 10 years or so. The wife is all for it, thats half the battle!!:)
