Planning a trip to Devils Lake, ND. Never fished there before. Any recommendation on a guide for 3 to 4 people? Do guides REALLY take clients to the same HOT SPOT or are they just putsing around and hope that you'll catch fish? Seemed stranged because all the former clients would just go to the HOT SPOT year after year, right? I was informed to look up Mitchel Guide. Thanks in advance.

I would call Mitchells Guide Service. Jason is a great guy and has some good peolpe working for him. Mr. Candle is good also. If you need more go to devilslakend.com to see all the guides who are members of the chamber.

Keep in mind you hire a guide to catch fish. Not to learn their best spots. A good guide will put you on fish and not even get close to his best spots! It's all about having fun and catching some fish.
Go with the intent of having some fun and not learning every hot spot on the lake.
A third vote for Johnnie.

I'd go with a guide who's actually from Devils Lake. The others mentioned only moved here a couple years ago. Mike Shell from Shad Rap Guide Service (contact Woodland Resort) is the most experienced and busiest open water guide on the lake. He works hard, keeps his equipment in excellent shape, has fished and hunted the area since he was a youngster, and has a great personality. A couple others are Rick Darling and Jeff Trana. They know the lake well and are always at the top in the local tourneys. For a list of the different guides check out the Chamber/Tourism site at www.devilslakend.com.
Good Luck !!!

Contact Johnnie!! If you don't have fun with him you won't have fun with anyone! Now if you just get Jim Carrol in the mix to give each other a hard time you will have a ball!!!

Check out Ross Sensiba at Rush Valley Guide service. He has a great place to stay also. A group of 13 of us went up this winter and he is a super guy and knowledgeable fishermen. Just ask Bob Jensen.

If you guys spend any time around DL, you will know that Mitchell is the man as far as guides. Johnnie Candle doesn't spend more than 20 days a year on DL. Mitchell spends 200 day per year guiding customers. He makes a living at guiding. Not many people can say that.

Mitchells or any of the guys he has working for them are the only way to go. Someone mentioned Mike Schell, he is really good and works with Mitchell. Mitchells has taken guiding to a whole nother level.

Oh, come on now guys. Johnnie didn't even jump in and plug himself, others did. So why try to cut the man down personally? Leave it about business. Never fished with Johhnie, but from what I do know about him, he's a really nice and pleasant guy.
Beat me to the punch Terror. Johnnie is a great guy to fish with. I do not know Jason Mitchell and he probably is the best guide to go with, but I have fished with Johnnie and have had a blast with him.

Thanks a whole lot for the information. I would like to say I have spoke with Jonnie, and unfortunally he'll be gone the week we go up to DL. Had a few minutes and talked to Johnnie, seemed like a great guy (GUIDE). Hey Johnnie I'll email or call you in June to planned the next go around.
