Is it ever too early to troll spoons on Erie (western basin)? I've usually waited until the water warms up in early June or so, but a couple of guys have mentioned that they have heard of folks trolling spoons in the deeper water out from the reefs for the post spawn big females. What say you experts?

Its more a question of where than when. The reefs being shallow don't make trolling a good option especially with all the boats working the reef tops. Trolling works better out in a little deeper water off the reefs and into open water. For big walleye we troll.
