I know that lead core sinks 5-6' per color-will it be deeper if I have 50' of fireline attached to the segmented leadcore then attached to the planer board-or would it be the same depth if I only have 5' attached to the segmented leadcore then attached to the planer board? For some reason, in my mind I would assume that the segmented leadcore plus the 50' of extra line out would allow it to settle more-would be deeper- but by how much? Is it a trial and error deal-nothing is written that I could find in the trolling bible. I know that with any pro I fished with said to stop the leadcore just after it passes the water line and don't give any more mono/braided line out after to reach the desired depth that the amount of leadcore out would hit. Do I make sense? It would seem that the leadcore would be in a more horizontal state with attached line to it-rather than being more diagonal like with only 5' of line attached to the planer board, thus allowing it to sink more....

Walt...I have to beleive that it would get more depth by letting line out after the lead be it fireline or mono. Personally I think its alot of guess work as to where it is at considering how speed dependant it is. I have pulled baits on bottom of 70' on the east basin with 6 colors.

Walt,
On page 16 of the 6th Edition of Precision Trolling they have a chart for segmented Leadcore. (3 colors of 18lb leadcore with 50ft of 10# leader with shallow stickbait) The "feet back" part of the chart is feet of additional mono backing out beyond the leadcore. Braided lines would increase the depth that it runs by Approximately 20%.

My response is.. Get off the Leadcore. Go to a Jet Diver system, you can't beat it, if you have to stop the boat the Jet floats up. Also, speed doesn't matter with the Jets like it does with the Leadcore. If leader length is an issue, do what I do. Go with a clear Jet and light line.

Meat Hunter-I run jets also, but I have had my best success with a 15' leader to the lure and it is a pain by yourself trying to net a fish because you have to handline the fish in when the jet gets to the pole. I do like the ability to drop or raise your lure by speed if you run over fish in a different zone than what you were originally targetting. Thanks for the help...

I use a 6 to 7 foot leader with a clear Jet Diver, it works out well with my 8' Okuma rod because I can just stow everything on the rod. The 15' leader my be a pain putting new crawlers or whatever on it.
Thanks, Meat Hunter.
