View Full Version : Garmin eTrex Legend Feedback
I currently have a Garmin GPS 45xl and am thinking about getting the eTrex legend. The main reason I want the Legend is for the map. I don't need alot of detail I am just lookin for a fairly accurate outline of the lake.
Is the basemap typically good enough?
If I need to add the dowloadable map do I get the the water and lights or the City and streets? I am in Minnesota if that means anything.
Please share your feedback.

Mn, I just bought the legend. The basemap doesn't show the lakes I fish real well. The fishing hot spots cd doesn't show the lakes in ohio, where I'm from so it is useless to me.I think I'm going to go with the roads and recreation cd first.I guess it shows all roads even rural and shoreline detail.I'm guessing that will show the outline of the smaller lakes I fish.It is small.I like the mapping.I saw at garmin's website the cartogaphy maps for their plotters. They show in detail every lake in ohio.I'm trying to find out if there is another handheld mapping gps that will accept those. My answer from garmin wasn't very clear. If you have any questions about the unit, let me know maybe I can help. good luck goose925

I think you will be happy with the Legend.I'd stay away from the waterways and lights cd.You'll get about the same detail on water with Roads and Recreation plus pick up all of your county roads and city streets.Garmin is now offering a $50 rebate if you buy the Legend and the topo cd.Topo shows all of the smaller lakes like Roads and Rec the only real difference is Topo does'nt always name the smaller roads. You might also want to check out the Garmin map76 it has a larger, easier to read screen.
Have fun........
I have not seen the topo cd - is it new? Do you know where I cna find any details on it?
Thanks

Well I know for sure you can get it at Cabela's.
It's a three cd set that covers the whole U.S. It will allow you to enhance to base map that comes pre loaded in a Garmin mapping GPS.
I'm sure that it also has to be available from garmin.com
Is there such a thing as maps that will cover Canada?

MN,
Two things have to happen...
1 - A Canadian company must survey and digitize the popular waters and license the data to third parties for use in their electronics, since none of the existing maps offer depth contours, or...
2 - Fishing Hot Spots be granted permission to work in Canada to provide the detail to anglers frequenting these waters. We continue to work on it on behalf of all visitors (and residents) fishing in Canada.
Until such time, we all wait.
