We are heading out to Kelley's the 22nd for a week from WI., looks like a cold front is following us there. Any special tactics or tips for this situation. I know the basics like deep, slow and smaller presentations, are there any other things that have worked for you people that fish the big pond regularly? Anything that we can prep for that seems to be Erie specific?

Thanks,
RKG

Aside from grenades ;-), you pretty much have the answer! Cold fronts are no different on Erie than most large lakes, it shuts the bite down and you have to slow down to catch up!!

rkg, the best advise i have is to take a extra bottle of ej brandy with you, and practice your sheephead skills!!!!

Frankly, I'd be less concerned about the cold front and more concerned about the marine forecasts of 5-8's all weekend. You might want to think about an alternate plan or date.

Well, we are going so I guess we'll just wait it out. Hmmm, E&J and Sheephead doesn't sound all that bad............

RKG,

You can always fish one of the rivers (Sandusky/Maumee) if you really want to fish. Just bring some waders. With 5-8's I would try to find something other then the big lake.

Your waiting it out will be a long wait. Forecast for possible gale winds Sat and Sun. You don't have a big enough boat for that. Cold and wet through Thurs of next week.

If I agree with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Many a trip has been saved for us by either hitting Sandusky bay, the Portage river or East or west harbor. You can find protection and sometimes the fishing can be pretty good, If you want to fish bad enough. We have caught walleye, smallmouth, crappie and an occaisional Pike. Granted, it is not like fishing the big lake, But at least your on the water.

I am going to think about turkey hunting next week.

If this forcast holds up it may be awhile before I get back out.
