Just starting to play around with my new fishfinder, have a couple of general questions. Do you typically use the auto mode, or do you set it on manual. If manual, what do you typically set up the sensitivity and colorline at? What other tweaks do you use? Thanks.

Jim,

I generally have sensitivity set on auto but I'll drop it down to about 67 to 75 if I'm getting too much clutter on the screen. Note that you'll have to uncheck the auto sensitivity to make any adjustments manually. My Colorline is usually set around 75 to 80. I've found that if I have it set too high I get "false strong" readings. You want strong hits to read as yellow and weaker signals to read as red to blue. I think the best thing to do is get out on the water and mess around with it. Make your adjustments as needed.

One other note. You've got a feature called Bottom Color Tracking. You can change the bottom to display as brown to help separate targets from bottom. To use this feature hit MENU, scroll down to "sonar features" and hit enter, scroll down to "Sonar Chart Mode" and hit enter, scroll down to "Bottom Color Tracking" and hit enter, exit, exit. Just go through the same steps to change it back to white background.

Good luck this season and enjoy your new Lowrance unit!
