Tie on a hook, add 5 or 6 beads and a blade. Any where from 18"s on up in length.

If I agree with you, then we'd both be wrong.

Jann's Netcraft, Cabela's, Gander, etc. has a boatload of blade sizes, colors, styles, clevis', beads, hooks. Learn the snell knot and it takes about 2 minutes to tie up a new harness. Don't forget the bead in the loop!!! I always forget until I got to slide the egg sinker on...must be my ADD.

This is a web page that I found. Really good directions for tying crawler harnesses with pictures and its free. Let me know if it doesn't work I printed the info off an could probably get it to you. One other tip is to use the Quick Change clevis this will allow you to switch spinner blades if one color is triggering with out having t change complete harnesses.

Good Luck

tying worm harnesses is a lot of un, especially when they catch fish. Every winter I tye and re-tye my harnesses just to break the cabin fever.

I get my beads at the local craft store. They come in tons of colors and sizes. Those beads they give out at parties work well too, they have a reflection to them.

I start with about a 6 to 8 foot length of leader if I'll be trolling with the harness. If I'm fishing lake erie...I use treble hooks. I tie two on..size 4 , about 3 to 4 inches apart. Then I'll thread on the beads. Just enough beads to keep the blade off of the top of the hook. I tie so many that I do some solid colors, some alternating of 2 colors and some with multiple colors. I let the fish tell me what color blades and beads work the best. I'm still experimenting while I'm on the water.

I use #5 colorado blades from Bait rigs tackle the most. The thing about it is...have plenty of bead colors and sizes and plenty of blade colors, sizes and shapes and just go to tying...I wrap mine around one of those foam swimming pool tubes. If I'm bottom bouncing with harnesses, I go to about a foot snell and maybe a float to help keep it off the bottom. One hook for a minnow, two for worms. I really down size my blades to a number one when bottom bouncing. When I get really desperate, I primer over blades that don't seem to catch anything and repaint them. Purple and white have been real good for me on erie, and gold is always a good choice. If you need any more info let me know. Don't be afraid to try hot pink

I've found 14" to be about right for me for casting. Tried a lot of different lengths and seem to catch as many fish and easier to handle? Your experience has shown 18" to be better for you Brion? What length do you like for bouncers? I also like in-lines better than eggs. You? Buckeye?

For the most part and I think most of the Charter Capts. I know when we tie our harnessses up, we use mostly #4 Colorado Blades in any color as long as it is GOLD. The prism perch color blade works good too. Red,Gold and Lime Green beads work well. All the others are just for something different.
