Can someone give me a general rule for the amount of weight to use with this rig and how deep you are fishing?
I also realize it depends on the speed of your drift, but that can be controlled with a drift sock.

There is no answer. If you want a quick drop you use more weight. Bigger waves you usually use more weight. I use 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 3/4, 1 oz and 1 1/2 depending on conditions and what the fish want. If we have just a little chop I'll work a 3/8 and go heavier if I can't get any action.
If you are dragging you need enough weight to keep the sinker on the bottom.

I think the answer is like the gentleman said it depends on the water, but i have a question ,what do you do when you are marking fish at 20 ' how do you keep the Mayfly rig at 20' without trolling ?

95% of the time we use 1/2oz. If you have fish at 20' you cast out either towards the front of the boat or the back, Not the side and give it a count. the count will vary but for 20' I would try around a 12 count and then start a slow retrieve. You will change up counts till you find one thats working. It's very effective. The procedure I mentioned about where to cast is refered to as fishing the swing. Meaning by casting in an outwards direction of your drift, by the time you start retrieving your bait there is a point it will create a swing. That is when most bites will occur. Hope I explained it OK.
If I agree with you, then we'd both be wrong.

I use 1/2 oz the most. On the count I try to count to bottom and then modify for other depths. The swing gets interesting when you have 6 to 8 guys doing it LOL Some always give up and for D & D )drag and drink). :-)
